What kind of offset printing consumables will you need?

by Dominick Raucci Business Head
Offset printing is one of the most preferred techniques since it can produce a considerable volume of prints in less time. That’s why most printing presses utilize this particular technology to this date, even though digital printers are there in the market.

If you too want to open your printing press, you will need offset printing supplies like blankets, rollers, varnishes, inks, and so on. This article has listed some of the main classifications of supplies necessary for this printing technology.

  • Offset Printing Plates

Out of all the offset printing consumables, it is the offset plates that matter the most. These plates need to be passed between the rollers, and the diagram or data to be printed will be transferred onto these sheets from the offset roller.

There are different types of plates you can get from the market like:

  • Toner laser plates
  • Image setting film and supplies
  • Analog metal plates
  • Direct image press plates
  • Analog silver plates

The plates are usually made of a thin sheet of metal. However, options are also available in plastic, rubber, or paper material. Metal plates are costlier than paper plates. But their longevity is a plus point for producing high-quality images on paper. Additionally, these have greater accuracy compared to other material plates.

  • Printing blankets

The offset printing blankets are required to transfer the images from one roller to the other. These are mainly manufactured from synthetic or rubber material to avoid getting damaged when wrapped around the rollers. After wrapping the blanket around the rollers in an offset printer, it will transfer the image from a metal plate to a substrate that can be paper, fabric, or anything else.

  • Inks and additives

You will need the inks and other pigment additives to get the best print quality using offset printing blankets. For instance, if you don’t want smudges in the prints but want the colors to be dark, you need to go with the waterless inks. Similarly, varnishes and reducers are used to enhance the quality and performance of the inks to be used in the offset printing press. Since you need offset printing supplies of the best quality, you can also go with the conventional inks that are long-lasting and preferred in most cases.

  • Printing rolls

One of the most critical printing consumables that you will need the most is the printing rolls. Offset printing can’t be done without the rolls, and hence, no compromises should be made while looking for the rolls. Unlike the sheets and papers used in laser or digital printers, offset presses will need humongous paper rolls. These rolls will allow you to have continuous prints of the same type, which is the main requirement in a printing press.

  • Sprays And Cleaning Solutions

You will also need a collection of spraying and cleaning printing consumables. For example, aerosol sprays must fix the dry ink powder on the sheets and prevent smudges. Similarly, varnishes will be necessary to give a sheen to the prints and clean the blankets and rollers. These solutions will vary according to the ink you are using and the roller blankets.

List of offset supplies necessary

Apart from the above-mentioned offset printing supplies, there are several other things too which you will need includes:-

  • Digital CTP system
  • Binding equipment
  • Covers
  • Laminators
  • Films
  • Pouches
  • Hand cleaners
  • Solvents
  • Roller cleaners, etc.

It would help if you chose a proper supplier who will provide you with all these items at standard prices without compromising the quality.
