A home can incur several defects in some years after construction, but one that sounds that most threatening is leaking showers in the bathroom. The solution to this is "bathroom or shower waterproofing" and this is something not to be delayed at all. The reason is an estimate given by renovation experts that ignored bathroom or shower leakage can damage a home more than termites can damage it. In this post, we have covered topics like what is waterproofing, why it is essential for any property and how it is applied and lastly, the reasons to rely upon experts Shower Sealing are the same. So let us start with the first question, i.e. what is shower waterproofing.

What is Waterproofing?

Waterproofing is basically a process used to secure the area from water, dampness or moisture. When waterproofing is applied, it can be assumed that the material used in the process will not let moisture pass through it. This is mostly effective in wetter areas of a property preferably around the showers, taps, sinks in the kitchen and so on.

In this regards, shower waterproofing experts add that shower waterproofing generally means using a suitable membrane product as a waterproofing agent. The main task of this agent is to ensure that moisture or dampness could not escape from, wetter areas in your home to other areas and damage them. As mentioned above, these wet areas inside a property are basically those that have sanitary or plumbing related fittings. These areas are subjected to really high levels of moisture and dampness that if escapes could be really troublesome for the property owner.

Depending upon the area to be waterproofed and waterproofing material used, the cost could vary enormously. In this regards, experts say that you should expect an expenditure of anywhere between AUD 35 to AUD 300.

Australian Waterproofing Regulations

As far as waterproofing rules and regulations in Australia are concerned, different states have different rules to follow. But all those states have to follow some standards of Building Codes Of Australia or BCA and also Australia Standards (AS 3740-1994) and these regulations say that –

•   Shower floors must be totally waterproofed and shower walls must be waterproofed up to a height of 1,800 mm.
•   Bathroom walls must be waterproofed up to a height of 150 mm.
•   The step down from the shower to the floor must be waterproofed to a height of at least 100 mm.
•   If the bathroom is not on the ground floor, the entire bathroom floor must be waterproofed.
•   If the bathroom floor contains any wood, the entire bathroom floor must be waterproofed.

Different Types Of Waterproofing

Waterproofing membrane used for shower waterproofing comes in different types and in a majority of cases; they are made up of rubber sheets. These rubber sheets are rolled out and attached to the surface and apart from this, some come in liquid form and applied using a brush or a roller. Amongst all of them, the most popular is the liquid shower waterproofing membrane that is easy to apply and highly flexible.
