What is Mindset? And Why is Positive Mindset Important in Life for Success?

Have you ever wondered how "less talented" athletes manage to outperform their "better qualified" peers? The answer lies in how they feel about themselves and their abilities in a growth mentality.

Discovered by Carol Dweck, a psychologist at Stanford University, the growth mindset is based on the premise that people believe most of their core skills can be developed through dedication and hard work.

At prepare, we know that this perspective breeds the love for learning and sees resilience as essential to any achievement. For this reason, we encourage our students to focus their energies on improvement rather than worrying about failure, and that this allows them to take responsibility for their self development.

Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset

At our high school, we try to move students from a rigid mindset to a growth mindset. To do this, we try to discover certain personality traits that will help us put students on the right page based on the following:

As we can see, students with a fixed mindset believe they are smart or not. Therefore, there is not much you can do to improve your skills. On the other hand, students with a growth mindset believe that effort is the key to success and that challenges and criticism are tools for improvement.

How to develop a growth mindset?

Here are few tips from successisdecision to develop mindset.

1. Challenge the brain

It's important to keep young people's brains active, one of the best ways is to vary the way information is taken in. For example, using mental maps, illustrations, videos, interactive maps, etc.

2. Think critically

Memorizing a topic can have good results in the short term, but over time you must develop the ability to critically analyze information to gain a holistic understanding. Therefore, it is recommended to take notes to maintain an orderly argument.

Prepare students who participate in debates are more likely to deepen their understanding of a topic and overcome difficulties, such as

True learning happens through trial and error. It is important to inspire patience because sooner or later effort and perseverance will be rewarded.

The anticipation of success is strongly associated with perseverance, and perseverance is what leads us to positive outcomes. So, when we see a student slipping into a fixed mindset, we encourage them to be positive and move towards a growth mindset.

In preparation, we know that our students have different skills and talents. However, we want everyone to keep improving and adopt a growth mindset for life.
