The cultivation of durum wheat (Malwi) has been preferred by most of the farmers in M.P. as there is a decent demand for this variety of wheat among the private sector companies. The kernel of this variety of wheat contains high protein and it is comparatively harder. The data from Indian Agricultural Research Institute’s regional station also reveals that the production of durum wheat has increased manifold (about seven times higher than what was grown five years back).

So the wheat agro-business operators, including the wheat flour suppliers in Jabalpur have been reaping the benefits from this promising sector. The growth trend in the wheat production is expected to continue and Madhya Pradesh will soon outnumber the data of the competing Indian states.
