Use Effective Herbal Remedies for Liver Diseases

When normal liver tissues are replaced by fibrous tissues it is called liver cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis might also be considered as a stage where the liver reaches after confronting some certain causative factors for a prolonged period of time. Liver cirrhosis has also at times compared to Kumbhakaamla as described in Ayurveda. 

Though liver cirrhosis is usually caused by excessive alcohol consumption in most of the cases, there are some viral infections such as hepatitis B, C viruses, autoimmunity, heredity and various other factors that can damage the liver and end up causing liver cirrhosis. 

There are many symptoms that can be spotted for liver cirrhosis which includes indigestion, nausea and vomiting. As more and more time passes by, you start experiencing severe stomach ache which is followed by weight loss. With time your breath may start to stink and your skin starts getting a yellowish tinge. When the condition starts to worsen further, you get thin red spider-like marks on your body. Your abdomen also bloats and gets red marks. If you see any of these symptoms you must get yourself checked immediately. But if you are skeptic about modern medicines you can always opt for Ayurvedic medicines and these days finding an ayurvedic medical store is not a difficult task.

If we take a look at liver disease from Ayurvedic perspectives, then liver cirrhosis is caused by extreme aggravation of pitta dosha. Since most of you know that liver is the seat of pitta, that is why aggravated pitta would affect the functioning of the liver and it would also vitiate other doshas. Rasa and rakta dhatus are intoxicated particularly while the other dhatus become weak as well. With the imbalance in the pitta almost all the functions of the pitta such as digestion of food, a complexion of the skin, feeling of hunger, production of blood etc. get hampered. But there is some diet and lifestyle tip that you can follow as a part of liver cirrhosis treatment.

  • You must avoid hot, spicy, oily, and heavy foods; eat a vegetarian diet.
  • You should try to Avoid refined flour, polished rice (white rice), mustard oil, mustard seeds, asafetida, peas, canned and preserved foods, cakes, pastries, chocolates, alcoholic beverages, and aerated drinks.
  • You must also start to increase the intake of whole-wheat flour, brown rice or parboiled rice, mangoes, bananas, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, Indian gooseberries (amla), grapes, radishes, lemons, dried dates, raisins, almonds, and cardamom.
  • You should avoid unnecessary exercise and stressful conditions such as anxiety or anger.
  • You must take complete rest.
  • You must completely stop Alcohol consumption.

But there are even some home remedies that you can follow for liver disease:

  • You can add a teaspoon of powdered cumin seed in a glass of buttermilk. And drink this mixture for good health.
  • You can squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water. Stir in a teaspoon of salt. And consume this mixture thrice daily.
  • Make a juice of 1 carrot and hand full of spinach. Drink this detox mixture twice daily for good health.
