Tv Host Julia Bradbury Celebrates 100 Years Of The Caravan On A Floating Campsite On The Thames

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

Did you know that the humble caravan is celebrating its centenary this year? Yes, that’s right – it was 1919 when Eccles produced the first-ever car-towed caravan.

It was therefore somewhat befitting that an Eccles caravan built a century later, the 560, recently appeared on the UK’s first ever floating campsite on the Thames in London, occupied by no less than former Countryfile host Julia Bradbury.

Julia spent a night on the boat-bound campsite to celebrate this landmark year in the history of the caravan, preceded by evening drinks with fellow TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and Jenni Falconer, as well as her family, a few close friends and a selection of the camping club’s members.

Quite the place to enjoy a homely night...

As the This is Money website reported, the one-time Watchdog presenter was far from a random choice of TV personality to mark such a significant milestone for the caravan. She is, after all, the president of the Camping and Caravanning Club, so ought to be the perfect person to demonstrate the wonder of the caravan, and its suitability to be pitched up... well, almost anywhere.

ThisisMoney.co.uk’s Rob Hull visited Julia and her unconventional home for the night, and reported that as well as the caravan containing a large double bed, ensuite shower and fully-equipped kitchen, the campsite consisted of “trees, a barbecue, deck chairs, lighting, bunting and a Field Candy tent, which is said to ‘feature the World’s Smallest Pub design’.”

Julia performed the stunt last month to signal the launch of the club’s National Camping and Caravanning Week, which she said “is all about inspiring the nation to get outdoors whether that’s through caravanning, motorhoming or traditional tent camping.”

We did think there was something missing, though...

While we don’t doubt here at Ferguson that Julia enjoyed a luxurious time aboard her unconventionally-located caravan for the night, we couldn’t help but suspect that a certain little something could’ve enhanced her experience still further. That’s right – we’re suggesting a Ferguson Caravan Tv would’ve made the perfect finishing touch!

With all manner of options for such a TV available right now from our online store, encompassing everything from our 19” LED 12-volt DVD Combi with Satellite Tuner, right through to the 32” Battery Operated LED TV with Freeview T2 HD and Satellite Tuner, you really don’t need to look any further than Ferguson.
