Three mandatory programs for an IB school?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) board has been hailed as one of the best education boards in India. The board is widely recognized by many schools for its emphasis on

creativity, practicality and application-based studies that mould students to be better prepared to face the real world when the time comes. International baccalaureate schools in India have three programmes that are present for students from the age group of 3 to 19. These programs are as follows:

 

·         Primary Years Programme (PYP): From Kindergarten to 5th class

·         Middle Years Programme (MYP): From Class 6th class to Class 10th

·         Diploma Programme (DP): Class 11th and Class 12th 

 

Primary Years Programme (PYP) Kindergarten to 5th class- The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for students aged 5 to 11. It focuses on the total growth of the child – both in the classroom and in the outside world. Schools will develop students’ academic, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing, in addition to their overall development. The subject areas covered in this programme are language, social studies, mathematics, science and technology, arts, and personal, social and physical education.

 

Middle Years Programme (MYP): From Class 6th class to Class 10th – This programme is for students aged from 12 to 16 years, and covers a wide range of issues and ideas nationally and globally. International baccalaureate schools in India that provide this Middle Years Programme form rigorous and highly flexible framework that powerfully integrates with local educational requirements. This requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group in each year of the programme. The subject areas covered in this programme are 1st language, 2nd language, humanities, science, arts, mathematics, physical education and technology. MYP students also complete a long-term project, where they decide what they want to learn about.

 

Diploma Programme (DP): Class 11th and Class 12thThe Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19. The subject areas covered in this programme include 1st language, 2nd language, individuals and societies, science, mathematics, and computer science & electives. The programme aims to develop students physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
