The process of extracting CBD

by Elev Ted Hemp & CBD distributor

CBD or cannabidiol is one of the three main ingredients found in cannabis plants. After recent studies have shown its potential uses, CBD oil has taken center stage.

High-quality CBD is extracted using industrial hemp. It is provided with the right amount of THC, so it does not produce psychotic effects. CBD can be extracted from hemp plants with many different techniques. Generally, extracting CBD only from hemp is the easiest way because the plant contains only and only CBD. Plus, the equipment needed in the process is simple to use.

Since a good number of hemp stalks are required for the production of hemp oil , there is a high probability of contamination of the toxins present in the plant. This is because hemp has powerful bioaccumulator properties, due to which it is able to absorb the toxins present in the soil in which it grows. The main problem is that many hemp oils lack the full spectrum of terpenes and other cannabinoids that work synergistically with CBD. Simply put, consumers will get fewer benefits than full spectrum oil. However, with that said, some brands conduct stringent testing to make sure the CBD, terpenes, and other cannabinoid content is okay.

We at Elev8ted provide a Certificate of Analysis showing the components present in the hemp oil. This certificate also shows the concentration of the compounds. The extraction process uses a solvent that helps extract the oil from the hemp stem. There are a number of solvents used commercially. Each of them has its pros and cons.

As a rule, a solvent is needed in the extraction process. The most frequently used solvents include olive oil, CO2, and other liquid solvents. We at Elev8teddo our best to maintain the quality of the CBD that has been extracted. To do this we use only the best extraction techniques and the best quality plants.

Read on to learn more about the methods that can be used to extract CBD from hemp plants.

Extraction of CBD with CO2

Extracting CBD using CO2 is a rather complicated method, however it is the most effective and safest way to extract CBD. At the same time, it is an expensive method. Our skilled and long-time experts use highly technological and state-of-the-art equipment for this process that changes the phase of CO2 by means of temperature and pressure.

The CO2 is compressed and cooled to 1000 PSI for storage. Once the gas is compressed to these extreme conditions, it becomes supercritical. In other words, once the CO2 reaches this pressure, it transforms and becomes a liquid form. Hence, when CO2 is compressed, it exists simultaneously in the liquid and in the gaseous state. In the next step, the CO2 is heated and passed through the hemp plant in a device called a closed loop extractor. As the name suggests, this device helps to extract the oil. Both temperature and pressure are carefully managed to make sure the nutrient content of the hemp plants is not damaged.

After all this process, the result is a high quality CBD, which is essentially the purest form of extract available. The extract is transparent with slight amber shades. This is a full spectrum CBD which is then stored in dark containers, so that light or heat does not change the concentration of the chemicals present in the extract. Our experts continue to use the same process to understand the other chemical components found in hemp and their positive effects on the body.

At Elev8tedwe only use the CO2 extraction method, so that our customers can enjoy optimal quality of the hemp oil products.

Extraction with olive oil or ethanol

The FDA has stated that ethanol is a safe solvent. When it is available in 16000ppm, it is suitable for human consumption. Ethanol is a good all-round solvent, and is present in many products we use on a daily basis. It is used as a preservative in many edible products and is commonly found in cosmetics. It is also miscible with water, which makes it a suitable solvent for the extraction of hemp. To recap, here are some key points of ethanol extraction:

  • Ethanol is suitable for extracting Full Spectrum CBD Oil from the hemp plant
  • Despite its many pros, ethanol extraction also has potential cons
  • Since it is water soluble, it can dissolve chlorophyll easily. As a result, the taste of the product will be bitter and grassy.
  • Chlorophyll can be easily extracted; however, the additional process required will result in additional costs, thus increasing the cost of production
  • It has also been found that removing the chlorophyll from the extracted CBD also reduces the potency of the CBD oil. For this reason we avoid this technique, so that we can provide our customers with the highest quality CBD and the greatest potency.

Instead of ethanol, it is preferable to use another method, which is that of extraction with olive oil. This process is quite simple, as it involves heating the oil to 93 degrees Celsius. The extract is then filtered from the plant. However, the only problem with the resulting extract is that it is impossible to filter it. As a result, the leaves become less potent and users will need to take a higher dose to get the most benefits.

Extraction with butane or hexane

This extraction method is also known as the Rick Simpson method. After having an accident at work, he suffered from ear ringing and dizziness, and his treatment was not giving any benefit. After watching a documentary on the benefits of CBD, he asked the doctors if he could also use CBD for treatment but they refused. Tired of his illness, he began to extract CBD on his own and noticed an improvement in his health after using it.

For this extraction process, Rick Simpson used the following hydrocarbons:

  • Butane
  • Hexane
  • Pentane
  • Propane
  • Acetone

Hydrocarbons typically have a low boiling point, which can be purified in the extraction process. In this extraction process, only the purest form of CBD oil is extracted. However, even though the process is cheap and simple, it is quite dangerous because it carries the risk of fire and even explosion. Furthermore, this extraction process produces fumes which in turn are flammable.

At Elev8tedyou find only the best CBD

At Elev8tedwe only use the CO2 extraction method, since it is the most authentic and reliable extraction technique. Furthermore, this method allows us to extract a very pure CBD oil, which is then carefully stored so that our customers can enjoy the maximum benefits of Smokeables in Mooresville .

Once the extraction process is complete, our experts test the extracts to make sure they are highly effective and pure, and that they will deliver the results customers are looking for. Thanks to many years of experience, gained from working in the field, we are well equipped with the knowledge necessary to know how to extract the best CBD.

We only use hemp grown on our land. Our experts use only the best cultivation techniques, so that our hemp plants are healthy. We also check the CBD and the nutritional content of the plant. So we select only the best plants for oil extraction, while we discard the others. In the meantime, in order to obtain the optimum quality, we carefully handle the product in our extraction department. Our experts also oversee the process from start to finish, making sure everything is handled professionally. Given all of the above, you will only be able to get the best extracts from Elev8ted!
