- Be Slow
in Pumping: In the first four weeks, work
together with your baby to build your milk supply. Pumping can help you in

- If Baby
Can’t Breastfeed: In case, your baby is unable to
drink milk directly from the breast then you can start double pumping. Learn to
use pumps from hospital staff if possible. You can aim to 8-10 session of
pumping in one day.
- First
Time Usage: When you use the breast pump for
the first time, perform pumping session for at least 15 minutes. Maybe
initially you won’t be able to collect much milk but with time you will be able
to stimulate more breast milk.
- Stay
Hygienic: Always wash your hand before and
after breast pumping. Also clean the pump parts that come in contact with your
milk or baby’s mouth.
- Be
Comfortable: Being comfortable is necessary to
release hormone oxytocin that stimulates when you are relaxed. Keep everything
you need near you so that you don’t feel distracted by anything.
- Time
Gap: Pumps between breastfeeding should have at least 30-60 minutes
gap or it should be done one hour before breastfeeding. This will leave a good
amount of milk for your baby at your next feeding.
- Milk
Volume: Generally, you can pump more milk
in the morning, during the evening time the volume decreases. Although, it is
hard to say what is the exact volume of milk as every breast produce different
amount of milk.
- How to Pump: Read the manual to assemble the kit. Then set the speed to the highest level and suction to the lowest level. Learn forward and then start pumping. Once the milk starts coming, decrease the speed to medium level and suction to the comfort level.
