The Last of Us 2 Ratings Revealed

by Emily Johnson Technical Advisor

The Last of Us 2 has received an” M” rating, which stands for mature. The game developed by Naughty Dog has been given the ratings by the ESRB board describing the content of the game as violent. The official website of the game has revealed the information regarding getting the M rating for the game from the ESRB. The official website of the game has shown the multiple descriptors used for the content in the game, which includes describing The Last of Us 2 as a brutally violent game full of intense violence, blood and slaughter, and nudity. ESRB Board, while providing the ratings to the game, found the game content encouraging drug use and has frequent use of strong language everywhere.

The ratings have not come as to a surprise for the fans or the developer, Naughty Dog. The original Last of Us was also got an M rating for the depiction of intense violence and bloodshed. Meanwhile, The rating M provided by the ESRB board has restricted the game to the adults-only, and the children are not allowed to go through the game. The game has to feature the warnings for including adult content and strong language. The Last of Us developed by Naughty Dog was also an action-oriented adventure game in which the players of the game have to assume the roles of Ellie and Joel.

The lead characters have to fight with the human survivors of the post-apocalyptic world, and they can use many enhanced weapons includes rifles, steel pipes, pistols, explosives, blades, and spiked bats, firearms and stealth while traveling across the ruined city. The players can use the technically sound weapons to kill the mutants and zombies while crossing the city in the role of Joel, who has been a smuggler and trying to escort a girl, Ellie across the infected town in the United States.

In the original Last of Us also, ESRB found that the combat scenes have been depicted more furiously than the needed one by using different camera angles. Further, the combat scenes were accompanied by screams and cries of pain and blood stained scenes to make it more realistic. The game was full of extraordinary acts featuring attacks resulting in dismemberment and decapitations, and the worst among all these were the scenes featuring the death of a young character from gunshot lying in the arm of his father. ESRB board also indicated towards the scene in the enemy was stabbed in his knee during the interrogation, and not only this, the further plot of the game was too full of use of abusive language and adult remarks. The characters of the game could be found easily using adult comments and indulge intimacy, which was very frequent and so it was decided to give the M rating for the game.

The Last Of Us 2 is also facing the same problem, but still, the developer, Naughty Dog, is hopeful that the ESRB board may look into the decision of providing it “M” rating. The developer, Naughty Dog, has announced the game will be released in May in the year 2020, and it is exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
