The incredible benefits of hemp clothing

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

What if we told you that you can wear clothes made from the Cannabis plant?

Oh yes, yes you can! But this is nothing new, in fact, hemp clothing began to be used thousands of years ago. Hemp, also known as Cannabis Sativa L. , is said to be one of the first cultivated plants. In current times hemp clothing is returning very strongly and here we will give you some of the benefits of hemp clothes. Let's find out why …

Hemp is a carbon warrior

Global warming is real and it is happening is a fact. More and more movements and people believe that we must change things, people and industries. The fashion sector and its entire environment is one of the most co- polluting, generating a huge amount of waste and greenhouse gases.   Current trends in fast fashion translate into rapid production and consumption of clothing, which increases the carbon footprint. The cultivation of hemp in the fields helps the process of CO2 absorption from the atmosphere at a faster rate compared to other trees.Hemp cultivation is capable of generating a positive impact on the environment as it is one of the few crops capable of balancing the CO2 emissions emitted by humans. Through the process known as "carbon sequestration" the hemp plant traps CO2 from the atmosphere. This generates a negative carbon footprint in the environment because the amount of CO2 that the plant metabolizes in its growth stage is greater than that released in its harvest and processing. For every ton of hemp produced, 1.63 tons of CO2 are removed from the air.

It is much more efficient

For its cultivation, hemp needs 90% less water than that used for cotton and produces 2.5 times more fiber. One hectare of hemp can produce the same amount of paper as four hectares of trees, and in addition, its paper can be recycled 7 to 8 times (3 more than that of wood pulp paper). Therefore, changing our habits and betting on hemp clothing will save a good amount of water.

You do not need pesticides or herbicides

25% of the pesticides and herbicides produced worldwide are used in the cultivation of cotton. Due to this high need, cotton leaves the earth burned. On the contrary, hemp does not need pesticides or herbicides. It helps repair damaged agricultural soils by reversing the effects of compact and erosion. In addition, hemp cultivation increases absorption and returns 60% of nutrients to the soil when dried in the field. Hemp can easily grow in most types of soil, does not deplete the properties of the soil and can restore vital nutrients in the soil. For example, farmers can re-grow hemp in the same soil, as well as plant hemp as a crop rotation process. Hemp cultivation does not require chemical fertilizers, since the shedding of leaves provides adequate fertilization to the soil, nor pesticides since it is naturally resistant to pests.

Reduce water pollution

As stated earlier, the use of agrochemicals is minimal, which eliminates erosion of the topsoil caused by felling trees. This would also reduce the risk of contamination of water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, streams, etc.

Hemp requires less land

The area necessary for the cultivation of hemp is much smaller, almost half of the area necessary for the cultivation of cotton. In addition, hemp can produce three times more fiber than cotton in the same soil. In short, the cultivation and production of hemp would not be an excessive burden on our planet.

A prodigious fiber

Hemp tissue is active against microbes in nature, this makes your clothes stay clean for a longer period and prevents you from developing odors that cause bacteria. It is considered the toughest natural fiber in the world being also incredibly resistant. Since the appearance of the first civilizations it has been used to manufacture tarpaulins, ropes and even sails for ships. Hemp fabric has 95% UV protection, when most fabrics barely exceed 30%. Its fiber has anti-bacterial properties, a very high resistance to mold and eliminates bad odors.

Oil substitute

The use of hemp can replace oil in almost all its applications. It is used as raw material in the production of more than 50,000 products and is useful for many industrial applications. From hemp it can be obtained from biofuels to plastics, textile fibers, cellulose for the paper industry, materials for the construction of the aeronautical industry, etc.
