Reasons

You primarily run into this error while opening or installing QuickBooks on your computer. The possible causes of this QB runtime error developing on your PC are mentioned below-
  • There are already EXEC processes running in the background, which signifies that the Windows installer is occupied.
  • The Entitlement Data Store file is damaged, and QuickBooks fails to start when the file refuses to run.
  • The license and product file is either compressed or encrypted, which makes it inaccessible for QuickBooks.

Solutions

You’ll face trouble setting up QuickBooks on your PC or running the software efficiently once this error develops. The easiest way to remove this QBDT error from your PC is discussed below-

Solution 1- End EXEC processes on your system and recreate the Entitlement Data Store file

QuickBooks might fall prey to this error during installation if the Windows Installer is already occupied with another task. This causes problems as the Installer won’t be able to extract the QB installation package, terminating the process instantly. You can get rid of this issue by stopping EXEC processes from running in the background-
  • Open the task manager on your PC (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and navigate to the Processes tab.
  • Search for any instances of EXEC in the list and single-click on it if you find one.
  • Tap End Task to stop it from running on your PC and causing problems.
If QuickBooks is already installed on your computer and you run into this error, it might happen due to a damaged entitlement data store file. This file contains the QB’s license number and product key information. The software runs the file during its start-up to verify your identity and might showcase this error code when the file fails to run. You can fix the issue by recreating the file on your computer as described in the steps mentioned below-
  • Launch the Run window (Windows+R) on your PC and erase the data auto-filled in the command section.
  • Type C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntilementClient\V8 and press Enter.
  • If the license file folder doesn’t open, type V6 instead of V8 and press Enter again.
  • In case you cannot open the folder from Run, you can open the file explorer and access C: ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient to find the file.
  • Right-click the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file located inside the folder and click the Delete option.
  • Tap Yes when the dialogue box for confirmation occurs.
  • Reboot your system after the file is removed and relaunch QuickBooks.
