T20 World Cup in 2021: Host Nation, Launch Date, Location, and Countries Playing

by Hreet N. Business

After a five-year hiatus, the Men's T20 World Cup, among the most eagerly anticipated cricket tournaments, will return. The most recent Cricket T20 World Cup was held in India in 2016, with West Indies becoming victorious. India will be the host country, however, no games will be held there. The 50-over World Champions England, the T20 reigning winners West Indies, host India, and Pakistan appear to be the favourites to win the tournament, while World Test Champions New Zealand might be a side to watch.

Country of the Host

The ICC T20 World Cup would be held in India in 2021, however, none of the games will be held there. Rather, the UAE and Oman will host all of the matches, even the Qualifier matchups that will take place before the competition starts. UAE is hosting the IPL this year, and conducted so last year as well, and has effectively found a way to keep the covid danger at bay, which serves as a huge comfort to the ICC and BCCI, allowing them to focus on the World Cup.

Dates of Start and End

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup will begin on the 23rd of October, 2021, in the United Arab Emirates, with Australia taking on South Africa in the first match. On the 8th of November, India will face an A2 qualifying side in the last match of the Super 12 stage. However, before the World Cup games commence, an eight-team qualifier competition will be held from the 17th of October till the 23rd of October, with four of the eight teams qualifying for the Super 12 phase.

Venue

The T20 World Cup 2021 Venue consists of four venues, three in the United Arab Emirates and one in Oman. The world cup games will be held in Dubai International Field, Sheikh Zayed Field in Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah Field in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Oman Cricket Academy Stadium. The opening game of the tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi, and the championship will be held in Dubai Field. The four venues will host a total of thirty-three games, comprising the semi-finals and final.

Teams

The Qualifier round will include eight teams. They'll be split into two sets of four, with the best two teams from each set qualifying for the Super-12. The Super-12 nations are split into 2 groups of six, with four clubs fixed in each group and the qualifying teams filling the remaining two spots.

The World Cup's format is as follows:

Round 1 features 8 groups: The Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, Sri Lanka, Oman, Papua New Guinea, and Bangladesh. They were separated into 2 categories. They will face off once, with the top two teams from each division qualifying for the Super 12 round.

India, England, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the West Indies, and Afghanistan will compete in the Super 12 round after qualifying directly. In this stage, the Twelve teams will be separated into 2 parts. Each squad will face off against the other teams in the division once. The semi-finals will be decided by the top two squads from each division.
