Pakistan did lose Hafeez after the first over of the second innings, whereas Akmal was chased down by an in-swinger from R. P. Singh. Misbah-ul-Haq stayed intact at another end, with tail-ender assistance, and came within 13 runs of the goal; nevertheless, he did lose his wicket, with the risky bet of heading over short-fine leg closing in a Sreesanth catch. As a result, India won by five runs. Irfan Pathan and R. P. Singh were the standout bowlers, each taking three batsmen; Joginder Sharma and S. Sreesanth also took two and one batsmen, respectively.
