SpaceTrek- the Kennedy Space Center tour with a difference!
by Space Trek 3D DesignerEducation
is the foundation upon which a great character as well as a successful future
is built. A rapidly developing world needs constant innovation in the way we
approach education. It is imperative that the education system prepares leaders
of tomorrow who are innovators and capable of finding holistic and inclusive
solutions to the future world problems. And an understanding of the history of
development is key to address future challenges. One of the significant steps
in this direction is designing public outreach platforms where everyone can
connect and get inspired from the cutting edge research and technological
developments.
Kennedy
Space Center Visitor complex is one such institution established to educate
everyone about NASA’s space exploration history and inspire the next generation
of scientists, engineers and astronauts. Kennedy Space Center is one of the ten
NASA field centers. The primary launch center for human spaceflight, Kennedy
Space Center carries a huge legacy of Apollo, Skylab, and the Space Shuttle
launch operations. It is a primary site of action for the most recent space
operations and also manages the launch of robotic missions to space.
The
visitor complex featuring various exhibits and displays makes for a memorable
and highly educational tour. Bus tours take one through the launch pads and the
Apollo/ Saturn V Center. The Space Shuttle Atlantis orbiter is on display to be
seen in its real glory. The Shuttle Launch Simulator provides a real experience
of being launched into space. Simulating a real rocket launch, it is augmented
by personal recollections of space missions by NASA astronauts. A prelaunch
briefing, the launch sequence and a final countdown to zero gravity takes one
through the adventure of space exploration. Watching the operations of deep
space exploration by NASA on the world’s first twin 3D IMAX screens serves to
inform and inspire the young generation.
Space
Trek programs at the Kennedy Space Center are uniquely designed to offer
hands-on learning opportunities to participants. The Space Trek educational
programs cater to the modern education system by shifting the focus of learning
from information gathering to information analysis, from knowing to
understanding and application. Located at the Kennedy Space Center, Space Trek
offers programs in Rocketry, Robotics, Engineering and Near Space
Investigation. These programs engage students in collaborative projects where
they exercise critical thinking skills in the background of space exploration
while learning important STEM, data gathering and analysis skills.
Being
located at the Centre for Space Education at the Kennedy
Space Center gives Space Trek programs an advantage of improving the participant
engagement with the exciting Up-Close Kennedy Space Centre tour. This unique
tour takes you on a historic sojourn with facts about the different space
vehicles, structures and buildings important to the history and the future of
advancement in technology. Whether it is the 525 foot tall Vehicle Assembly
Building which is stacking NASA’s largest rockets like the Saturn V Moon
rockets or the Astronaut Space Station Processing Facility, this Kennedy Space
Center tour offers unique insights into the history of development. ‘Lunch with
an Astronaut’ provides an exciting opportunity to interact with the astronauts
in an informal setting over a delicious meal. An exciting package of
activities, challenges, interactions and fun, a Kennedy Space Center tour surely
gives a new vision and inspiration to educational aspirations.
