Safety Requirements and Tip While Using Scaffolding

by Larry Chetan Business

In the construction industry, accidents and death tolls have risen to an all high in VT. These cases are mostly associated with disregard to the standards put in place for construction works.

To ensure everyone is safe, construction safety bodies including OSHA have put together safety requirements that every scaffolding rental VT company and customers should follow. This will ensure everyone is safe, whether they are in or outside the job site.

Scaffolding Safety

Many a time, some of these deaths have been caused by malfunctioning scaffolds. Mainly, it could be because the platforms were not hoisted properly or on firm ground. It could also be because of adverse weather or exposure to electric cables. If the set standards are followed while using scaffolding, many accidents could be avoided.

Variety in Safety

While working at a job site, be it a warehouse, residential, commercial, or plant construction, it is important to be vigil enough. It is advisable that you have all the local, federal, state, and international regulations and ordinances that cover the use of scaffolding platforms at your fingertips. Even though the standards may vary from one state or region to the other, the common ones should be everyone’s concern.

Conducting Proper Inspections

Before any scaffolding platform can be used, it is advisable that a thorough and proper inspection should be carried out. The inspection should be done by qualified and competent personnel, preferably from the scaffolding rental company. The inspection, ideally, should be carried out every morning to ensure any faults are detected and rectified before they can be hazardous.

Ensuring the Right Load Goes Over the Platforms

Another cause of scaffolding accidents is overloading. If the platform is supposed to carry 500 tons, you should not exceed that. Mostly, they are equipped to carry four times the indicated load, but care should be observed.

If any of the systems is overloaded, it will become weak and fail to support your workers. The results will be unimaginable if they come tumbling down with the system.

Additional Safety Tips

·         Always use the scaffolding systems as per the manufacturers’ recommendations.

·         Always lock the scaffolding wheels when they are in use.

·         Ensure that all debris and tools are removed from the platforms.

·         Mount the scaffolds on stable grounds and away from adverse weather or soil erosion.

·         Ensure that guardrails, toeboards, and midrails are erected on all open ends and sides. These are the recommended personal fall arrest systems.

·         Ensure at least a 10-feet distance from electrical power lines.

·         Do not move the platforms when they are being used.

·         You should never alter the scaffolding accessories.

·         Also, you should avoid using the scaffolds when there is a strong wind or storm.
