If there is one thing that Australians do not like then that would be to share their bathrooms. This is why most of them install an extra bathroom in their homes where ever there is space. And, this is not some random information. It has been corroborated by the Housing Industry Association.

Affordable bathroom renovation Brisbane or anywhere else for that matter, if done properly adds more value to your home than the cost to install one. And, a cheap bathroom renovation does not mean the room will be of a lower quality or that it will lack style. It only means spending your hard-earned money on places where it matters. But by now you must be wondering how much can an affordable bathroom renovation be?

Cost of an average bathroom renovation

According to a survey conducted in 2017/2018 by the Housing Industry Association or the HIA, it was found that the average cost of a bathroom installed in a new home to be somewhere around $16,430 and that of a bathroom installed as part of a renovation to be $17,522.
Yet another study conducted by Houzz Australia found that people over the age of 54 spent around $11,900 on a bathroom renovation and those between the age of 35 and 54 spent around $12,700. The study also revealed that if you were under this age bracket then you were likely to spend around $9,100 on an average bathroom renovation.

Irrespective of size, as claimed by a report by Open Agent, an affordable bathroom renovation Brisbane or anywhere else in Australia can cost between $5,000 and $15,000. A standard renovation can cost between $15,000 and $25,000, while a luxury renovation can cost more than $25,000.

How much does a small and large bathroom renovation cost respectively?

Going by the study conducted by Houzz Australia Bathroom Trends study, a small bathroom that is less than 5 meters square can cost something around $9,700 to renovate.

While a large bathroom that is greater than 5 meters square in size can cost something around $13,200 to renovate.

Here’s how you can save money on bathroom renovation:

1. Go for Retrofit

Opting for a full bathroom refit will only result in you having to spend more dollars. And, more so if you want to change the layout, as the cost of labor will account for the majority of your budget. You can avoid this, for example, by leaving the plumbing where it is.
Moreover, maintaining the placement of your existing shower, toilet, and vanity waste locations will allow you to get the most cost-effective bathroom renovation. Within this location, you can easily introduce a walk-in shower, increase the storage, and install a wall-faced toilet. This will greatly enhance the visual effect of your bathroom at a much lower cost.

2. Reconsider tiles

Tiles may be small in size but the eventual cost will add up and that too rapidly. It depends on the style and brand of tiles that you choose.

However, there is a great way to avoid this additional cost and that is to restrict the tiling to just half of the wall length, or just tiling the feature walls like the wet areas in the shower zone and behind the bath.

3. Remember – Less is more!!

If you are serious about achieving a successful and affordable bathroom renovation in Brisbane then you will have to from saying no to every accessory that fits your theme and keep things minimal.

You can do this by finding a focal point in your bathroom and go for one statement accessory with few supporting items around it. You can also consider accessories that fulfill 2 roles like mirrors. It can act as a centerpiece and provide function at the same time.

Keeping these small things in mind can go a long way in saving you precious bucks while not compromising on the quality of the renovation of your bathroom!!
