A soft grip that helps less likely to slip out from hand that gives comfort to hold such as a toolbox, hammer, the toothbrush is some of the materials made from a thermoplastic elastomer or many called it as TPE compounds. This can also be safe to use for food contact stuff like babies’ soft spoon and healthcare products like dental guards, and it can also good to make sealing materials like sealing ring in the piping system, or bottle caps liners.

What is a thermoplastic elastomer or TPE compounds used for and how this made?

• The thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is used to create suspension brushing for automotive performance applications. And that is because of its greater endurance to deformation compared to regular rubber bushing.
• TPE is produced by copolymerizing that is used two or more monomers either block or graft polymerization techniques. And it is constructed or extruded on standard plastics processing equipment in considerably lesser cycle times than those required for firmness or shift molding of conventional rubbers.

There are two types a thermoplastic elastomer or TPE compounds polymers that are made by connecting the various monomers, like polypropylene that is made by connecting the propylene monomers. Polymers elastomer provides material its elasticity as well as softness properties. Another polymer also imparts strength.

Types of thermoplastic elastomer TPE compound:

• Thermoplastic olefin TPO compound is a type of TPE compound is made from polyolefin (polypropylene) that is mixed with an elastomer, thermoplastic olefin has many uses and that is included with the automotive parts and uses for cable wire protection.
• Elastomer vulcanize TVE compound is a type of TPE compound that is vulcanized or crosslinked. It provides improvement to the material which helps greater compression and improves resistance to heat deformation.  

TPE compounds have tons of applications as stated above but mainly used in the following industries:

• Food Applications – Anything that gets in contact with the food we eat needs to get food approval. So TPE’s that make soft baby spoons, toddler cups, etc.
• Medical Applications can be used in sterilized using autoclaves, gamma irradiation, etc.

 

Plastic Raw Materials:

• Another important material used in the plastic industry is the plastic raw materials, they are used in our everyday life. Plastic is everywhere but these polymers are constructed of smaller pieces of monomers.
• The plastics which we generally use in automotive vehicles, refrigerators, etc. These plastic raw materials are modified in ways either pigmented, reinforced with other materials or even modified with plasticizers to give plastic its specific properties according to the application.
• Types of Plastic raw materials are Polypropylene which is mostly used in interior applications of the automotive industry. Whereas polyamide is used in the engine component of the vehicle, because of its high melting temperature.

Chemistry helps brings properties to substances that were never achieved before, Substances that bring strength, quality and even improve the cost-effective affordability. Polymers that improve sustainability like master batches are an improvement to the plastic industry.

• Additional to the volumetric output of the plastic, it improves productivity.
• A cost-effective method as it helps reduce the material cost because of the high percentage of CaCo3
• It provides toughness, adhesion, and excellent flexibility as well as stiffness to the plastic.

With the help of polymers that can be modified, chemically engineered, and even mixed to improve the productivity of the material in the plastic. This has been a change that needs to improve the plastic industry.
