Key focus areas included in the CSR Agenda of India Companies

are supposed to make contributions towards CSR. Tatas, Adani Group, ITC Group,
Hindustan Unilever, and DS Group are some of the companies which have made
commendable contributions to sustainable development through their CSR
initiatives.
CSR Agenda of Companies
Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of Indian
companies have
taken care of the many problems that affect the lives of people. The main
contributions of Indian companies have been towards the environment, health,
education, and gender equality. Companies like Hindustan Level Limited are
showing concern towards the environment by reducing their carbon
footprint.
Providing
quality education is a concern that several companies share. Informal schools
have been set up for children of construction workers. Slum children and street
children are being provided access the education. Educational support is also
being provided to non-schoolgoing children. Model schools have been set by
Aditya Birla Group for providing quality education.
Livelihood
programs are also being run by companies to help communities earn better. These
livelihood programs are women, farmers, and cattle owners. Adani Group and Tata
Group have made the empowerment of women a priority and have set up Self-Help
Groups to help women become self-reliant. Livestock management and veterinary
services are also being provided as part of the corporate social
responsibility initiatives of Indian companies. Aditya Birla Group and
DS Group are helping the cattle owners increase milk production by the
initiatives taken for cattle owners.
Water Conservation: Initiatives
Taken By Companies
Water
conservation is also a focus of Indian companies as it is essential for
sustainable development. As part of their water conservation CSR activity,
watershed management is being done by companies like Bajaj Group, ITC Group,
and DS Group. These initiatives have been taken in drought-prone areas. The CSR
initiative of Reliance Industries in water conservation has brought a large
chunk of land under assured irrigation.
DS
Group has been at the forefront in taking CSR initiatives. A large part of the
contributions made by the Group is for education, water conservation, and
sustainable livelihood. However, the Group’s focus has been steadily on water
conservation.
The
Group has been working on water conservation projects in rural parts of
Rajasthan. As part of its ‘Creation of Water Economic Zone’, DS Group has
constructed check dams and recharge pits in Rajasthan. Availability of water
has been ensured by reviving ponds in rural Rajasthan.
Water
harvesting structures have been set up in drought-prone areas of Rajasthan like
Jodhpur. Water storage facilities to ensure access to water for livestock and
drinking have also been set up. Through checking dams in Uttar Pradesh, DS
Group has increased the groundwater recharge.
