How to Revive a Wig

by Hassan Javed Link Building expert- SEO

Wigs are great for people undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, as they can help to protect the head and scalp from the harmful effects of these treatments. However, even after a wig has been worn for a long time and has become severely damaged, there are ways to restore it to its former glory.

What causes wigs to break?

One of the most common causes of wig failure is moisture. If your wig is not kept in a condition where it can breathe, the heat and humidity will cause it to break. In addition, certain products can also damage wigs. Rubbing alcohol can strip the hair follicles of their natural oils, causing the wig to become brittle.
If you notice that your wig is beginning to show signs of wear or tear, be sure to take it in for a preventive maintenance treatment. This includes deep conditioning treatments once a month and replacing worn or damaged pieces each season.

How to take care of a wig

Wigs can be an excellent accessory for people who have trouble wearing hairpieces or scarves in the cold weather. However, like any other piece of clothing, a wig must be taken care of to ensure that it lasts for a long time. Here are some tips on how to take care of a wig:

Ø  Always store your wig in a cool, dry place. If you can, try to keep it stored in an airtight container.

Ø  Do not bleach your wig. Bleach can damage the fibres and make the wig brittle.

Ø  Do not put your wig in the dryer. Air drying is the best way to take care of your wig. Ensure you do not overheat your wig, though - overheating can cause it to break.

Ø  Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaners on your wig, especially if it is made of synthetic materials. These chemicals may damage the fibre content and make the wig less durable.

How to revive a wig

If you have a  pixie wig sitting in your closet for a while, it might be time to try it. Here are four tips on how to revive a wig:

1.      Blot the wig dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. Do not use harsh chemicals or polish.

2.      Apply an oil-based hair treatment (such as castor oil) to the wig and scalp. Massage the treatment into the wig and leave on for five minutes.

3.      Mist the wig with a spray bottle filled with water and baking soda solution (1 part water to 3 parts baking soda). Spray the solution onto the wig several times, then let it sit for 10 minutes. Finally, rinse off the solution with cool water.

4.      Apply a hair conditioner to the wig and scalp, combing it through evenly. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly.

Conclusion

Wigs can be a great addition to any woman's wardrobe, but they can also become damaged over time.
