How to Paint Trim

by Muller Lukacs SEO King
All the trim in your house can add a stylish effect to the way the room looks. The trim is things like baseboards, doors, door frames windows and their frames, even things hanging on your walls like picture frames.

The wall paint in most cases should remain a classic neutral look in color with typical names like white sand, Birch White, cloud white, misty white and so on this will get you in the right area for your search in neutral colors.

Of course there are some things that you don't want to accentuate with color. For instance if you have a door in the wall that really doesn't fit well visually you might want to paint it the same color as the wall to hide this feature. Of course if this door is being used a lot for example you might want to put something a little shinier than flat wall paint onto the door and trim so you might be able to wash it later if need be. Also, caulk any cracks or openings between the trim work and the wall should be filled in to camouflage the doorway as much as possible, because if there is a gap between the frame and the wall which is going to make a black outline around the frame which you don't want. Filing it in will smooth out the transition. I usually use latex paintable caulking.

Drawing attention to the main feature in the room is a perfect candidate for this highlight color that you want to apply to the trim. This highlight color should be complementary or contrasting to the wall, and only one color really should be used to give the room some good continuity. There are various sheen levels that you may consider for this how to paint clouds on a wall. sheen levels very from low luster, Eggshell, Perl, semigloss, gloss or high-gloss. these trims have to be increasingly blemish free the higher up you go in the shine levels because the shinier wood is, the more it reflects imperfections.

White is the most commonly used trim color. But this doesn't mean that you have to stick with basic white. Again there's all kinds of variations of white you can play with. And a lot of times you can use variations of paint percentages of the wall color, or you can use the same color as a ceiling. Important note though when you're making a ceiling paint or a white trim paint with tint in it, don't start with ultra white paint and this has already some blue tint in it and it will throw off your color. Use basic white to get a cleaner color.

Paints come in two varieties, latex or oil base. If you prefer to use latex paint, you will have to take some precautionary measures to ensure it will stick to trim. If you're using oil-based paint and painting over a previously painted oil paint job you have no worries on it sticking to the trim. the oil base is a little extra work as far as cleanup and handling is concerned. But ultimately it does do a better job.
