by Harry Williams Manager

Windows 10 S is a lot like Windows 10 Pro. Both of these just have a couple of notable distinctions.  More particularly, Windows 10S is compatible with devices like Surface Laptop which is restricted to applications from the official Windows Store. Therefore, the user cannot just get the Microsoft Office setup from the web.

Consequently, the company is now offering the complete (Win32) desktop versions of the Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Publisher, in the official Windows Store for devices which have Windows 10 S.

In this Windows 10 blog post, we shall explain the entire procedure to get the Microsoft Office applications from the Windows Store on devices which have Windows 10 S. Furthermore we shall also be providing steps for the removal of one or several applications from the device.

Further information

You can get the applications using Office 365, Home, Personal, Education E5 and Education Plus. For users without any Microsoft Office 365 subscription, the company adds a year of Office 365 Personal subscription when a new Surface Laptop is purchased. This subscription includes programs such as Access, Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

At first only preview versions of MS Office apps are available in the Windows store as the new installation and updating procedure is still going through tests. As a result, certain unexpected errors might pop up in the initial days.

Even though a complete suite of Microsoft Office is given, there are a couple of shortcomings with applications provided in the Windows Store. The users can just install the 32-bit version, it does not support COM add-ins, and OneNote for desktop is not covered.
