How to Fix a Resource Monitor That Doesn’t Work?

A Resource Monitor is the standard software used for performance monitoring in Windows 10. This utility was first introduced in Windows Vista. It shows information regarding the use of hardware and software resources in real-time. You can open Resource Monitor by executing resmon.exe. However, if the Resource Monitor is not working, and is not displaying hardware or software resource usage, then read on and follow the solutions given below.


Turn on Transparency Effects

You should follow these steps given below:

  1. Go to the Desktop and right-click on it, then pick the Personalize option.
  2. Beneath the left panel, click on the Color option.
  3. Now, underneath the More Options section, turn on the transparency effects.

Launch Resource Monitor on Command Prompt

You should follow these steps given below:

  1. Navigate to the Windows Search section on your system.
  2. Thereafter, insert ‘cmd’ into it and select the OK button to launch the Command Prompt.
  3. Then right-click on it and choose the run as administrator.
  4. Once you reach the command line, input the following command and then hit the Enter key: perfmon/report
  5. In case you are still facing issues, then click on more instructions.
  6. Return to the Command Prompt, insert the following command and hit the Enter key: perfmon
  7. Reach the primary screen of ‘Resource and Performance Monitor,’ select the Reports option.
  8. Launch the System option and reach the System Diagnostics option.
  9. Here you can check each of the earlier reports.

Uninstall the Newest Update

You should follow these steps given below:

  1. Hold the Windows and I buttons together to open Settings.
  2. After that, go to the ‘Update and Security’ option.
  3. Go to the ‘Windows Update’ option through the left panel.
  4. You should reach the right panel and click on the Update History.
  5. Navigate to the Uninstall updates option.
  6. Later, select the problematic update and uninstall it.
  7. Now, reboot the system.

Launch Resource Monitor Manually

You should follow these steps given below:

  1. Hold the Windows and R keys to open the Run box.
  2. Thereafter, input ‘resmon.exe’ in it then hit the Enter key to open the Resource Monitor.
  3. Optionally, you should reach the ‘Local Disk C’ option.
  4. Navigate to the folder of Windows.
  5. You should find and twice click on the ‘System32 folder’ option.
  6. Locate a file of an executable called resmon.exe.
  7. Now, double-click on it to launch it.

By following the stepwise instructions given above you will be able to fix the Resource Monitor not working issue.
