How Can the Nickel Copper Alloy Help?

by Megha S. Self employed
Nickel is considered to be a very versatile element because it can form alloys with most other metals. There is total solubility between copper and nickel and also between nickel and chromium and iron. This is why nickel can be used for making different alloy combinations. The nickel copper alloy is popular because of its high strength as compared to either copper or nickel. The nickel copper alloy can find use in a variety of environments especially where there is a demand for corrosion-resistant materials.

Where will you find use for nickel copper alloy?

These alloys will find extensive applications in both marine applications and oil refining applications. The main reason for this is that corrosion-free materials are required by these applications. The nickel copper alloys provide excellent thermal conductivity and find a lot of use in heat exchangers. When you add nickel to copper it also improves its overall strength and resistance to rusting without minimizing its ductile nature.

In the nickel copper alloy types, the two key elements are of course nickel and copper, with about 90% copper and 10% nickel in one type and with 70% copper and 30% nickel in another type. The second type is found to be stronger and boasts of greater resistance power to seawater flows. The one with 90% copper and 10% nickel is less costly and more widely used. Both these alloys have small portions of manganese and iron in them in order to make them resistance to sea water and corrosion. The alloys are mainly used therefore in marine applications. They are easy to make and highly resilient to biofouling. Besides, you will find use for these alloys in sea water pipes, off-shore fire water system, hydraulic lines, heat exchangers, condensers, desalination units and fish cages.

Metal tends to decay under water and this is where the nickel copper alloy is most beneficial.

Since there are many different kinds of alloys involving copper and nickel, you will also find that their properties are different from one another. So, they are employed for different purposes. As these alloys are resistant to corrosion they will also have longer shelf lives. Besides marine applications, heating cables can use these nickel copper wires. The heating cables are devices which are meant to provide warmth such as the heating cables for plants. Since the nickel copper alloy can withstand extreme temperatures, the heating cables are made of these so that they can work without any difficulty.

Before you buy these alloys from any manufacturer online, you need to check the background of the supplier. This means reading through online reviews about their products and going through buyer feedback. You need to choose a company which keeps only high quality copper nickel wires that are completely safe to work with. These should be subjected to rigorous testing and must be declared safe for use. They should also conform to international quality standards. The company customer staff should be helpful and must extend assistance whenever you need their advice to buy a product from them.
