Hepatitis : Embrace Prevention and Refuse Ignorance

As much as we are aware of every single detail that is going on in our life or in our surroundings, it is not possible to stay cognizant of everything. One such condition is Hepatitis that can either be very mild or really dangerous. Since the month of May is Hepatitis Awareness Month, be well informed about this not so uncommon health disorder.


Hepatitis refers to an inflammatory condition of the liver mainly caused by a viral infection. The other possible causes include autoimmune hepatitis and hepatitis that occurs as a secondary result of certain medications, drugs, toxins, and alcohol. There are five types of Hepatitis such as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. An early detection is key to its prevention and cure. Let's focus on the most common symptoms of Hepatitis first in order to detect it before it becomes incurable. The following can be the indicators of hepatitis.


• Yellowing of the eyes and skin, or Jaundice

• Abdominal pain.

• Fatigue, nausea, vomiting

• Loss of appetite.

• Dark urine.

• Pale stool

• Unexplained Weight Loss


If you have one or more of the above-mentioned symptoms, get yourself checked immediately. Here are some tips to prevent hepatitis.


• Practice good hygiene.

• Do not consume excessive alcohol.

• Do not share needles, toothbrush, etc.

• Take vaccine for prevention of hepatitis B.

• Practice safe sex.

• Do not take illegal drugs.

• Avoid smoking.


Remember, prevention is the best cure. If it is not diagnosed and treated on time, it can often lead to more serious health conditions such as chronic liver disease, cirrhosis or liver cancer. Surgery is required to treat these extreme conditions. There are two types of surgery- open and laparoscopic surgery.
