Healthy Diet Tips for Rainy Season

We love the rainy season as it brings relief from summer months. However, monsoon also brings various ailments along with the relief from summer such as food poisoning, diarrhea, dysentery, etc. Therefore it is important to take extra care of our diet in this season. Let us find out how.

Drink water to stay hydrated. It is equally important to stay hydrated in monsoon season. Drink at least 6 to eight glasses of water every day to fight infections and keep your stomach happy.

Eat plenty of fruits as they help to restore energy. Fruits such as pomegranate, guava, apples, pears, etc are the best for monsoon season. Eat mangoes in moderate quantity as it can cause pimples.

Avoid milk and add curd, yogurt, and almonds in your daily diet to get a sufficient amount of calcium.

Avoid heavy salty food such a processed food like wafers, etc as they might lead to water retention and high blood pressure.

Use a moderate amount of garlic n curries, soups or salads to boost the immunity system.

Oats, barley, quinoa, and brown rice, whole wheat are the superfood for monsoon season.

Include pungent and astringent foods.

Cut done on tea and coffee, instead drink herbal or green teas infused with ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and cardamom.

Consume more bitter vegetables such as bitter gourd, neem, turmeric, fenugreek seeds, etc to avoid infections.

Consume dying oils such as light oil and avoid heavy oils such as sunflower oil, sesame oil, peanut oil, etc, to avoid infections.

Avoid eating spicy and oily foods as it can lead to skin infections including pimples, boils, skin allergies, etc.

Avoid heavy non-vegetarians food such as fish, meat, etc. Non vegetarians can go for light preparations such as soups or stews.

Avoid naturally sour foods such as tomatoes, tamarind, lines, etc. as it promotes water retention.

Avoid eating from roadside vendors and stick to high quality and hygienic food. Opt for foods prepared at home and not outside.
