FSSAI’s latest guidelines on food hygiene while online food orders

by Estartup India Grow Business With Us

Despite undertaking many safety measures, the effects of Covid-19 disease is still prevalent in India. Keeping that in mind, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has looked into safety precautions for delivery services. Indeed, these services are the mainstay, currently working to provide essentials and food to the citizens.

However, before a person can order food online, it is the duty of the service providers in charge to take the necessary steps. When handing the food over to the customers, Coronavirus can spread through this contact if either is affected. Thus, the FSSAI has given out certain guidelines for the service providers to implement in their delivery method. Moreover, the citizens need to regard them as well, so as to not spread this disease further, if affected.

  • No contact policy- This property is extremely important to follow when a consumer receives their order. To be precise, the FSSAI guidelines state that both the delivery provider and the recipient need to follow this diligently. The former should place the items outside the door of the latter, and give them the said update. This allows for zero-touch between two individuals and reduces the chance of hand-to-hand contact.

  • Self-sanitation- Before the consumers receive the item, they should wash their hands well or apply doctor-recommended higher-alcohol-percentage sanitizers. Not to mention, these factors require repetition after acquiring the product as well. This is applicable to both the clients and the delivery individual and requires high priority.

  • Payment method- During the payment portion of the task, the FSSAI guidelines dictate the avoidance of cash on delivery (COD). In fact, there are many reliable online UPIs available, including Google Pay, Paytm, etc., for payment purposes. Moreover, in case of payment via cards (credit or debit), consumers must sanitize it well before and after usage.

  • Using masks- When the delivery serviceman reaches with the order, the consumers need to cover their faces beforehand. Certainly, the regular, as well as medical masks, are extremely important, especially for ones who are self-isolating.

  • Order details via cellular devices- When a person has to order food online, they should do so via calls. Moreover, certain applications are available for them to directly select what they want from restaurants, like Zomato, Swiggy, etc. Consequently, this ensures a systematic and safe order and preparation process.

  • Other essential sanitation rules- While self-sanitation is a key rule to follow, it would not work if it happens alone. Therefore, consumers need to sanitize the risky locations like door handles, doorbells, etc. Additionally, after receiving the product, the FSSAI guidelines suggest cleaning the packaging as well. In the case of COVID-19 infection, the packaging is equally susceptible to contamination as the two individuals involved. Thus, it is important for both parties to follow this carefully.

All in all, these guidelines would ensure that the risk of contamination is much lesser when people order food online. besides, you must not forget to check the FSSAI registration or license number on the food package. This way, citizens can enjoy these services and the food industry can work efficiently. However, these government-mandated rules require positive consumer attention and responsibility of the providers simultaneously, to reduce COVID-19 risk.
