Fix QuickBooks Multi-User Mode Not Working Error in 11 Steps

Let us take a look at some of the primary causes that can trigger the multi-user mode not working problem -

1.       Hosting settings not configured properly

2.       System firewall or antivirus obstructing communication.

3.       The database server manager not able to open the company file.

4.       Windows file permissions not set correctly.

5.       QB Database server manager not installed.

6.       .ND files are corrupted.

 

How do we solve the problem of QuickBooks multi-user mode not working?

QuickBooks multi-user mode error is the most common problem. This is how you can get rid of the multi-user problem -

Solution 1: Download and run the QuickBooks tools hub program

1.       Make an exit from QuickBooks desktop.

2.       Go to the Intuit website, then Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and install it.


3.       Run the tool to access its features

 

Solution 2: Install and run the QuickBooks file doctor tool.

1.       Run the QB Tool Hub.

2.       Select “Company file issues” < choose the option to “Run QuickBooks File Doctor”.


3.       Browse the company file and scan it using the File Doctor.

4.       Wait for the tool to finish the scan.

 

Solution 3: Use QuickBooks database server manager

 

1.       Click on the Start button, and search for "QuickBooks database server manager".

2.       Run it.

3.       Proceed for Browse < Pick the company file folder.


4.       Click OK < Then on Start Scan.

 

 

Solution 4: Verify host mode on all devices.

1.       Run QB Desktop as admin

2.       Go for File tab < Utilities < Multiuser access.

3.       Tap on “stop hosting multi-user access”.


4.       Click on "disable hosting.”

5.       The multi-user mode is not working error should be fixed

 

 

Solution 5: Check QuickBooks services are running correctly.

1.       Go to the Windows search bar.

2.       Look for “Service.msc”.

3.       Check if the “QuickBooksdbxx service is in the services window list. If it is not there, follow the steps -

·         Database server manager needs to be installed on the the server.

·         Enable hosting on the server.

4.       Double-click the QuickBooksDBXX service, and the value should be set to automatic.


5.       Now, restart the QuickBooksdbxx service.

6.       Perform the same steps for QBCFmonitorservice.

 

Open the computer and launch QuickBooks with multi-user mode. See if the error is now resolved.

 

 

Solution 6: Configure Firewall settings

1.       Click Start, then search for “Windows firewall”.

2.       Click on “Firewall advanced options”.

3.       Go to “advanced settings” < “inbound rules” < “Create new rule”


4.       Go for “Port” < “TCP”.


5.       Add the port based on the QuickBooks version.

6.       Do the same for Outbound rules.

 

 

Solution 7: Rename the ND and TLG files.

1.       Visit the Company file folder.

2.       Search for .TLG and .ND files.

3.       Right-click the files, the click on Rename.

4.       Change the names of the files.

 

 

Solution 8: Switch to multi-user hosting

1.       Launch QuickBooks

2.       Go to File menu < Utilities< Host multi-user access


3.       Lastly, if the previously hosted multi-user setup is present, turn it off.

 

 

Solution 9: Ping server from a workstation

1.       Open Control Panel, head to “Network and sharing center”.

2.       Tap on the option to “Change advanced sharing

3.       Then, Enable network discovery.


4.       Type CMD in the run window, hit Enter

5.       Enter "Ipcongif/all", then hit Enter.


6.       Note the server name beside the Hostname.

7.       Again, open CMD.

8.       Type “ping_[your server name]” and Enter.

 

 

Solution 10: Configure default setting

1.       Launch QuickBooks.

2.       Go to File > Utilities > Host multi-user access.

3.       Incorporate the number of users into the company file.

4.       If the multi-user mode is turned on already, disable it.

 

Solution 11: The User has to make a new Company File Folder

  • Make a new folder for the company file. This step should be performed on the host computer.
  • Grant the Windows permission.


  • The last step, is to copy the .QBW file to the new folder.
