Everything You Need to Know About Ductless Air Conditioners

by Robert Morgan airzonehvac

Without any ductwork, ductless split air conditioners chill (or heat) your living rooms. They are also referred to as mini-splits due to their size relative to regular central air conditioning systems, which are referred to as split systems. Mounted units do not need a huge footprint on the floor, as portable air conditioners do, nor do they demand the use of a window, as window units do.

There are many different types of ductless split air conditioners.

Mini-splits are classified into three sorts.

1 - Mounted on the wall

The most prevalent kind of installations of ductless split air conditioners in Ottawa are wall-mounted. The airflow is pushed out and down by the motorized vanes at the bottom of the device. This is the optimal technique for cooling a single room.

2 - Suspended from the floor

At the bottom of the wall, towards the floor, a floor-mounted mini-split is fitted. It is not fastened to the floor but the wall a few inches above. It sends wind upward. Due to its comfortable floor-level location, it is easy to clean, maintain, and operate with or without a remote.

3 - Recessed Ceiling

Also known as a cassette, a recessed mini-split is perfect for big rooms or open floor layouts. It simultaneously sends air in four directions. This sort of device needs a minimum of ten inches of space above the ceiling to conceal the housing.

Energy-Efficiency

Consider the size of the room, the location of the airflow, and the unit's energy efficiency while looking for a ductless air conditioning system.

There are two primary energy-efficiency measurements that you should be familiar with: the greater the number, the more energy-efficient the system.

1 - The United States Department of Energy requires mini-splits to have a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 15 or above. SEER values of 20 and 25 are recommended for Energy Star systems.

2 - A Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) of 8 to 10 is optimal. Energy Star will certify a product with an HSPF of 8.2 or more.

Why Should Residents Choose Ductless Split Air Conditioners in Ottawa?

The primary reasons for purchasing a ductless air conditioner are comfort and cost savings. It may increase airflow in regions where a ductless system is not feasible. It can reduce energy consumption in areas where operating a central HVAC system year-round is inefficient.

As a result, a mini-split is an excellent choice for garages, additional rooms, and sunrooms. If your favourite room is scorching hot in the dog days of summer and bone-chilling cold in the dead of winter, a ductless air conditioner can maintain a constant, pleasant temperature.

Mini-splits are also an excellent alternative for cooling or heating just occupied rooms, which saves you money. Additionally, in older houses with a boiler heating system, a mini-cooling split and heating functions may help maintain acceptable interior temperatures throughout the year.
