Eat Well, Train, Then Go To The Holiday Party

by Neighborhood Trainers Finding a trainer is a personal choice

Are you dreading the temptations of the season starting today? Are you already concerned about the effect of all the parties on your carefully curated health? Well, it is time to get a grip before the season gets into full swing.

Here’s another way of looking at it: The major difference between now and any other time of year is a volume thing rather than a what we eat thing. At Thanksgiving we tend to eat good food; there are vegetables and there’s one of the best meats you can eat if you’re an omnivore. Yes, there is pie – there’s always pie it wouldn’t be American otherwise. If you balance what is on the Thanksgiving plate though, there is no reason to think it can’t be a healthy meal. Maybe a little richer than every other day, but answer this: If you have a baked potato any other day, do you load it with butter and cheese?

There’s nothing to say you can’t or shouldn’t. There’s everything to say you can, but just limit it. (Of course, this has to be within the context of your personal situation. This is not encouraging those who have food allergies to indulge for example.)

If you were to consult a nutritionist Chelsea, they would tell you to eat a balanced diet, not just fat sugar and cream. But a little of it every now and again, on the whole, will not cause too much damage. It’s not a slice of pie that is the problem. It only becomes an issue if you have a slice every day.

Of course, if you want to attack the problem from the other direction, you could look at working out with a Chelsea personal trainer. You wouldn’t be the first person who has taken up exercise to allow themselves a little epicurean freedom. It is probably not the best motive, but it sure isn’t the worst either.

By the way, there is one of those cause-effect things happening here. If you work with a personal trainer, you are going to build muscle. Muscle burns calories better than fat, so when you train you are going to raise your base metabolic rate which means you burn more calories for longer.

You’re likely to want to continue once you start. You might even be more likely not to overindulge. But if you don’t - go to the holiday party anyway.
