First things first…

It's relevant to know your aim to hammer the budding threat with the right treatment. Let's pull some more strings of the term 'Nephrotic syndrome", its causes and symptoms, and at last Ayurvedic prevention.

What is nephrotic syndrome?

Nephrotic syndrome is a common renal ailment that leads to an excessive loss of protein from your body, leading to protein deficiency. This problem mainly occurs due to the damage caused to the cluster of small blood tubules inside your kidneys that plays a crucial role in purifying your blood for the optimal functioning of your body. These small blood vessels are known as Glomeruli, preventing protein and other necessary elements from seeping out from your body. When they stop working, they eventually lose their ability to prevent protein from sneaking out from your body via urine.

Nephrotic syndrome occurs mainly in children ages 1-7 years rather than adults. Nephrotic syndrome can keep you at higher risk of developing infections and blood clots, bringing some serious health complications to your body.

What are the symptoms of nephrotic syndrome?

The symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are hard to get noticed during the initial stages of this problem. However, you may notice some symptoms after some time which may include the following-

  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Sudden weight gain due to fluid retention
  • Foamy urine indicates the presence of protein in the urine
  • Swelling in your legs, ankles, and feet, and especially around face

What are the causes of nephrotic syndrome?

Damage caused to the cluster of glomeruli is the primary cause of the nephrotic syndrome, which leads to an excessive loss of protein from the body. Healthy glomeruli function to keep the level of blood protein (Albumin) in an adequate amount in your urine. When damaged, these tubules of blood vessels are not able to prevent protein from leaving your body via urine. However, there are other medical conditions that can trigger nephrotic syndrome inside your kidneys-

  • Diabetic kidney disease- If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, then you're at higher risk of having the nephrotic syndrome. Diabetes affects glomeruli which can lead to excessive loss of protein and kidney failure most of the time.
  • Minimal change disease - This is a primary cause of nephrotic syndrome in children. Minimal change disease leads to abnormal kidney dysfunction, but it appears normal or nearly normal during a kidney biopsy.
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis  - This problem mainly occurs due to the scarring on some of the glomeruli. This condition can occur from another disease that is affecting glomeruli and interfering with their functioning. A genetic defect or ingestion of certain medicines can cause scarring in glomeruli.

  • Amyloidosis- Amyloidosis occurs due to the accumulation of amyloid protein in your organs. This problem can also hinder your kidneys' functioning. The amyloid buildup has a direct effect on your kidneys' filtering system.
  • Lupus  - Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the natural defenses of your body ( immune system)mistakenly misfires and damages your kidneys.

What are the risk factors of nephrotic syndrome?

There are certain factors and practices which can keep you at higher risk of developing nephrotic syndrome include-

  • If you smoke.
  • If you have certain infections like- HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and malaria.
  • If you are under certain medication, which includes the ingestion of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and drugs used to fight cancer.
  • Certain disease, like diabetes, lupus, amyloidosis, and other diseases which can damage your kidneys.

When to see a doctor?

It's best to consult the doctor if you consistently have more than one symptom, which is mentioned in this article. Other signs of protein deficiency include- Weaken bones with a greater risk of bone fractures, loss of muscle mass, increased severity of infections, and excessive skin and hair loss, which can indicate nephrotic syndrome.

Ayurvedic treatment for nephrotic syndrome

Ayurveda is the science of life that is capable of curing any type of renal problem, including nephrotic syndrome. The Ayurvedic treatment for nephrotic syndrome is based on the procedures of bio-cleansing, which is also termed as Panchkarma in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic treatment is a pure complex of several potent herbs which work on the root cause of the problem and enhances your kidneys' functioning.

Ayurvedic herbs work in three different stages: internal purification, strengthening natural defenses, and stimulation of weak or dead kidneys' cells.

Internal purification- Detoxifies your body from chemical toxins, bacteria, and infections, making you more prone to have many health problems.

Strengthening your immune system - The herbs powers natural defenses, increasing your body's ability to fight off the disease naturally.

Stimulation of dead or weak kidney cells- Ayurvedic herbs also stimulate the weak and dead kidney cells to start working properly as they should.
