Keto diets include consumption of fewer than 50 gms of carbs daily. Carbs are present in numerous foods such as pieces of bread, fruits, pasta, cereals, dairy products, and milk as well as vegetables that are starchy like corn and potato. While on a ketogenic diet your body goes into a ketosis state when the levels of ketones in the body rise above normal.

These ketones are protective against migraines. Migraine is a condition wherein the person experiences headaches with pulsing or throbbing pain, usually on a single side of the head. It can also include symptoms such as sensitivity to sound and light and nausea.

Ketones work by restoring the excitability and energy of the brain and leads to metabolism that can counteract the inflammation in the brain caused due to migraines. This way it can alleviate migraines. So patients suffering from migraines and suggested to consume ketogenic sweet snacks such as keto mug cakes.

Can ketones protect from migraine attacks?

According to research keto diet can help in treating migraines. In the year 1928, it was found that 39% of people found improvement in the severity and frequency of migraine after opting for a keto diet. In the year 1930, research proved that people following a keto diet did not get a migraine attack for almost 3 months after entering ketosis. Other 25% reported that their migraine attacks were less frequent and less severe.

Also, patients that opted for a low-carb ketogenic diet instead of a low-calorie diet reported higher weight loss too. While the ketogenic diet can treat migraine and reduce its duration and severity, it is not evident that it can prevent this mental condition. Still, research is going on about the effectiveness of the keto diet and so it is not completely recommended as a supplementary or primary treatment regime for people suffering from migraines.

If you are suffering from a migraine or want to lose some weight, opting for a keto diet can prove beneficial. You can start by opting for low carb mug cakes instead of sugar-based sweets.
