Big Expansion Of Wizz Air’s Luton Base Announced

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

The low-cost Hungarian airline Wizz Air was the subject of one of our recent news updates here at TARCG, when we reported its application for a UK operator’s licence that would enable it to continue flying in Britain after the country’s split from the EU.

Now, the airline has provided further good news for many an Aviation Recruiter, announcing a massive expansion of its Luton base that will mean four more Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet, five new routes and an additional 150 jobs by June 2018.

Such plans will heighten the total number of aircraft in Wizz Air’s Luton fleet to five, enabling the airline to build on a year of success that has seen it carry more than 5.5 million passengers on its Luton routes alone – an 11% rise on 2016’s figure, making it Luton Airport’s second-largest carrier.

More flights for travellers to take advantage of

Wizz Air currently employs 30 people and is boosting its capacity at Luton Airport by 15% year on year. As reported by Luton Today, next year will see the airline offering more than 6.9 million seats on 46 routes to 20 countries.

Included in the new routes will be daily flights to Larnaca in Cyprus and to Bratislava in Slovakia, while there will also be four flights per week to Tallinn in Estonia, as well as three flights per week to Lviv in Ukraine and Tirana in Albania. Seats on the new routes are already available to purchase.

The additional Airbuses – which can accommodate 186 people each – will also enable Wizz Air to up the frequency of its flights on three of its most in-demand routes. From next spring, flights to Tel Aviv and Suceava will begin to take place daily, with the Prishtina service moving from twice per week to three times per week.

Partner with a reputable aviation recruiter

Here at TARCG, we are certainly delighted by such developments, including the promise of over 150 more jobs at Wizz Air’s Luton base. It is yet another indicator that the UK aviation industry is faring well even amid the uncertainty imposed by the ongoing Brexit negotiations.

If you are on the lookout for your next big opportunity in this exciting and ever-evolving sector, don’t hesitate to upload your CV here at TARCG for the benefit of prospective aviation employers.
