Andy Warhol Artworks To Be Shown At Renowned Croydon Art Gallery

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

If anyone had any reason to doubt the burgeoning cultural credentials of such a previously unsung part of the English capital as Croydon, that may have been banished by the latest news coming out of the town’s acclaimed RISE gallery.

The news in question is that original works by Andy Warhol will be put on display in the Croydon art gallery as part of a “groundbreaking” month-long project to commemorate the 30thanniversary of the legendary artist’s death.

What is planned for London Warhol fans?

The St George’s Walk gallery will be delivering a programme of events throughout September that is expected to attract 100,000 people to the borough, and which will include a free exhibition of Warhol’s work.

In addition, a curatorial collaboration between the gallery and the artist Dotmasters will produce a street exhibition of giant artworks by some of today’s leading artists in tribute to Warhol. Town centre buildings will be lit up at night to display the pieces.

There will also be free guided tours of the exhibition twice daily throughout the month, as well as various free Warhol film and documentary screenings, talks and lectures and late night openings at the gallery.

RISEgallery has previously attracted attention by exhibiting the works of such renowned artists as Damien Hirst and Banksy. This latest announcement should serve as a firm indicator to those contemplating the currently available Houses In Croydon For Sale that the borough is increasingly becoming one of the capital’s cultural hotspots.

One of the art world’s most ‘evocative’ names

RISEgallery founder Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison commented: “Few names in the world of art are more evocative than that of Andy Warhol, who continues to attract record-breaking numbers of visitors to exhibitions of his work around the world.

“We expect 100,000 visitors throughout the month as Croydon’s reputation as one of London’s cultural epicentres continues to grow.

“Warhol’s work has attracted huge numbers of people to exhibitions in the likes of Sydney, Liverpool and Hull, this year’s UK City of Culture, and we are hosting the only UK event marking the 30th anniversary of his passing.”

Exciting news for Croydon
