In the self-improvement industry, mornings are often viewed as the best time of the day. You can tackle a ton of work, get ahead without any distractions and experience the most clarity of mind. If you're not a morning person, you can always become one. As you work on getting up early to start the day, incorporate these six simple steps to a healthy morning routine.

1. Stretch and Exercise

When your body has been in the same position all night, there's a certain amount of stiffness you might feel. In order to make sure everything functions properly, take a few minutes to stretch as you get out of bed. Touch your toes, and count to ten. Reach up, and do the same thing. As you do a few stretches, this is a chance to recognize when anything feels abnormal or out of order.

While stretching is a great exercise on its own, consider breaking a sweat in the morning. You'll get the workout done before you have time to really think about it. Whether you head to the gym for a workout or take a brisk walk around the neighborhood, take time to get your heart rate up and exercise.

2. Drink Warm Water

Warm water is powerful in its ability to wake up the digestive system. As you pour your cup of warm water, squeeze some fresh lemon juice inside. Don't be surprised if you need to do a bowel movement within an hour of consuming the warm lemon water. This beverage has a way of gently encouraging the digestive system to release pent-up toxins. You don't need to worry about consuming laxatives when you adopt this one simple practice.

3. Avoid Technology

For many, this might seem like a simple step. It's technically simple to avoid picking up the phone. However, many people don't have willpower. It's time to develop willpower and avoid your tech gadgets for the first hour of the day. When you wake up and pick up your phone first, you're allowing other people to set the tone for your day.

You're taking in the news, social media feeds, and other alerts that aren't vital components of your morning. Whatever it is, it can typically wait an hour. Use that first hour to connect with yourself and indulge in your morning routine.

4. Develop a Spiritual Practice

A spiritual practice is incredibly impactful for those who want to start their day on a positive note. It's also important for those who want to lead a certain type of lifestyle. Whether you're religious or spiritual, take time for your practice in the morning. Take time to pray, write in a journal and read. You can read wise literature from people in the faith like Master John

You can also read books by spiritual teachers who are prominent in current culture. As you take time to cultivate a spiritual practice, it can guide you through your day, prepare you for potential challenges and connect you to a Higher Source.

5. Consume a Nutritious Meal

If you're someone who prefers to fast in the morning, it's okay to consume unsweetened tea, coffee, and water to sustain yourself. If you're going to eat breakfast, make sure it's filled with nutrients. Try new recipes that incorporate ingredients like seeds, nuts and fruit. Try a smoothie bowl in order to enjoy a mix of fruits and vegetables. When you're in need of animal protein, choose lean, grilled options in order to sustain you without weighing you down.

6. Take Care of Your Appearance

When you look good, you'll tend to feel good. Take time to prepare yourself in a physical manner by taking a luxurious shower or bath. Use rich moisturizers and SPF in order to moisturize and protect your skin. Style your hair in a flattering way. Steam or iron your clothes in order to ensure you look presentable for the day. If you like to wear makeup, take the time to carefully apply it to your liking. Too often, people view aesthetics as non-essential. However, they matter because they impact the way you feel about yourself.

Closing Thoughts

If you want to wake up earlier, focus on getting to bed earlier. Gradually shift the time by fifteen minutes. As you work on gradually getting more rest, your body will naturally wake up when it's well-rested. By incorporating these habits and waking up earlier, you'll be able to start the mornings on a really positive note.
