5 Reasons to Make an Appointment With Your Gynecologist

by Adam Perry Content Editor

Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Woodlands are integral for women’s general health. You should see your doctor as often as recommended for routine examinations. However, there are certain reasons why you might want to make an appointment earlier than your next scheduled appointment. Knowing what these help you to better maintain your health.

Urine Abnormalities

If you notice a change in your urine or urination, a doctor for obstetrics and gynecology in the Woodlands may be able to help. Urinary tract infections are common and usually easy to treat when they are caught right away. Symptoms of this infection you might notice include burning or discomfort while urinating, a sudden change in urination frequency and blood in your urine.

Odd Vaginal Symptoms

Vaginal issues, such as yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, are common and need to be treated promptly so that they are not able to get worse. Symptoms could include abnormal vaginal discharge, vaginal itching and a foul smell in the vaginal area.

Menstrual Irregularities

If your period starts to change, it is important to be evaluated. No matter your age, issues with your period could indicate conditions, such as fibroids, endometriosis, uterine polyps, ovarian cysts or a pelvic infection. Symptoms to speak to your doctor about include irregular periods, periods continuing for longer than seven days, missed periods, very heavy periods and bleeding between periods.

Lower Abdominal Pain

Any pain that occurs in your lower abdominal or pelvic region should be addressed by your doctor. This includes menstrual cramps that are significant and in your lower back area. You also want to see your doctor if you notice a lump in this area or if you have pelvic or lower abdominal pain during or following sexual intercourse. Fibroid tumors and ovarian cysts can cause discomfort in this area and these are fairly common issues.

Strange Breast Symptoms or Changes

Breast cancer is common among women, so it is important to have anything that might indicate this condition checked immediately. Some abnormal breast symptoms to talk to your doctor about include a lump in your breasts, discharge from your nipples and a high level of breast discomfort during your menstrual period.

If you notice any of these problems, make an obstetrics and gynecology in the Woodlands  appointment as soon as possible. You might not have a serious health concern happening, but you will not know until your doctor has performed the necessary tests. Seeing your doctor promptly once abnormal symptoms occur not only protects your health, but it also gives you peace of mind.
