What You Need to Know about Your First Gynecologist Appointment?

by Kevin Smith Author

Your first gyn check-up in Spring, TX, comes up faster and faster it seems. The first few appointments can be scary and talking to friends and family members can often make it worse when they talk about their first gynecologist appointment. Be sure to think about the following things before you set up your appointment.

Find a Doctor You Like

Make sure to do your research on this one. This is a great question to ask your close family and friends because they know best about the doctors they choose to go to. What they like and don’t like about certain doctor offices. Also, make sure they think you'll be comfortable going to this doctor before you call to make your appointment. Make sure that the doctor you go to is trusted by people you trust.

Bring a List of Questions

Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Make a list of questions that you may be too shy to ask your close family and friends about or some things about your body that you may be wondering are normal or not. If you prepare your questions before you go, you can go into your appointment feeling relieved that you've already given good thought into the information you want to inquire about.

Plan It Around Your Cycle

While this is sometimes easier said than done, try to make your annual appointment around your cycle. You won't want to have your exam during your cycle so do your best to plan around it. That way, you don't have to worry about cancelling right before and finding a time after your cycle has ended.

Honesty is the Best Policy

Always be honest. Your doctor will ask you some questions that you may not tell many people about, especially concerning your sex life. Be open and honest with any doubts, questions, or concerns you have. They can't help you take better care of your body if they don't know everything there is to know about you.

Be Prepared for Everything

As many people have probably told you, your gyn check-up in Spring, TX, will be uncomfortable and potentially a little bit painful. Be prepared for all of it. The questions, the exams, the options they offer you in terms of birth control, recommended blood work and vaccinations, and much more. Most importantly above all else, don't forget to relax and breathe.
