Patience Is The Key

by Cynthia Gordon

I started off with a BANG!

When I first became an Independent Representative for Avon, I had orders coming in on a regular basis.  I was thinking this is great!  A year later orders are trickling in, no one is ordering.  I distribute brochures.  I advertise my website every chance that I get.  I've given discounts to customers.  I've done everything but offer the products for free!

I was even thinking of not selling Avon anymore.

I remember complaining to an employee of a check cashing store about how no one was ordering.  He asked me,  "Well, how long have you been selling Avon?"  I told him, for a year now.  He simply said, "Oh, you've got to give it some time.  You haven't been doing it that long."

DUH!!!  Thats when it dawned on me!  This is a direct marketing business.  What if all companies decided to shut down only after a year,  if they saw that customers were not buying???  No one would be selling anything!

So, for me, the one most important thing that I am learning in the direct marketing business right now is to HAVE PATIENCE!   Success does not happen over night.  Stick with it and eventually the business will prosper!!

My Great Aunt would tell you the same thing. She was an Avon distributor for years on top of years from WAY back in the day. She was also a pretty shrewd lady. She always stocked up on "gift" items. You may not have known what was in that box under the tree for Christmas but if t was from her, you could bet your life it was Avon. She got a lot of customers that way!

I think you will be allright. And you have an advantage that the aunt of Chyril did not have: internet and social networks. Good luck with it. I know the products, they are quality.

"Patience is a virtue", few newbie marketers get it, and that is ultimately why they fail.
Seems you got it with the wise words of a clerk.
If you can stick to it for at least 5 years, you will most probably be amazed at the results.
