Recommendation Wanted

Susan coils Senior   Web Design & Marketing...
Hello folks.

I need someone (or everyone) to recommend a good FTP service for me. As you all know (and if you don't where have you been?) I will soon be having my own domain.

Having now created my website (oh, she's good!) I now need the FTP so that I can upload it and actually be 'live'.

Bear in mind, I am technically challenged so the simpler the service the better!

Cost is a factor but is not that important in the overall scheme of things.

Thanks people.

Hi San,
I use Filezilla and you will like the price - FREE!!

It will keep track of your login info and is easy to use. You will want to download the Client from this page.
http://filezilla-project.org/

When you get your domain, you should also get an ftp account on your server that you can log into using the same info as when you log into your cpanel. All you need to do is install the client on your home computer and then login to your FTP account using Filezilla.

If you need more help, I have a video about using FTP I can upload to my server for you.

Thanks MK.
Looking at it now. Why they can't just make something where you just click a button and 'attach' a file is beyond me. I mean, you'd hve thought with all this technology even the button clicking would be automated. LOL.

Still, one day I will wake up and POOF, it will all make sense.

Actually, it is a drag n drop interface, once you have the connection set up, you just drag the folder or file(s) from one side to the other, upload to the right and download to the left.
The only button you gotta click is the one to connect to your domain!

coffee cup has an easy to use ftp program as well.

You also have the option of using the file upload manager in cPanel if you host supports cPanel management. Not recommended for "all" file types but its great for basic (html) websites.

I use ACE FTP - the free version - it's very easy to use,
and the price is well within your range. FREE !
Have used this one for a couple of years now, and really like it.

Personally I use ws_ftp pro. from ipswitch.com

This is however a paid one but for the amount of ftp work i do it is well worth it.

San,
You do not need a seperate FTP.
It all depends on whether you use Internet Explorer or Mozilla. Mozilla has a small little add-on called FireFTP which should more than satisfy your needs.
It quickly installs, setup is quick provided you have all the setup information at hand and should not be technically challenging to you.
Your hosting company should also provide you with a window/applet to upload your website, so you should check with them first.

wow, so many to choose from. Trust me Janno, you have no idea just how technically challenged I am. LOL.
I don't use Mozilla, (not even sure what it is). My default browser is Yahoo, though I do have IE.
And yes, I noticed in my cp that there was a thing (don't you love it when I put in the technical jargon) for uploading files. So I have uploaded what I hope is my main page. No doubt Bj will be able to tell me (unless I've crashed his whole server) when he sees whatever it is I've done.
This is really something I need to get to grips with though. resolution number 1 for 2008 methinks!
