Yeah!! Cricket Can Shock You Sometimes
South Africa was over the moon after their latest performance
against Australia. But in the first inning of their latest match they thought
of Australia as if they were playing against Bangladesh or Kenya. They were over-confident
even before the match. Because of that Aussies destroyed the top order of
Proteas.
Only Faf was the resistant, otherwise every batsman just went
in for a walk. They were drunk in their winning streak and Aussies took good advantage
of it. Faf scored the sixth century of his career. They were 9 out and scores
didn’t even cross the 300 mark but still he declared just because of
over-confidence.
Worldwide coverage is being given to this dramatic decision took by the Proteas
skipper and is doing the rounds of both social media and electronic media.
Many top names have praised the decision calling it courageous and at the same
time a lot of prominent analysts have also bashed at him citing his decision as
immature.
Australia fended of this strategic move with a very precise manner and played
out the remaining 12 overs of the day without losing any wicket.
This is not the first time South Africa has brought drama in the gentleman’s
game they are known for producing such dramatic episodes.
In the 1999 World Cup Semi-Final when all hope was lost chasing a target of 214
the Proteas were reeling on 198 for the loss of 9 wicket and with only 8 balls
left to score the 16 runs required to take them to their first ever World Cup
Final.
Lance Klusener their only dependable all round batsmen who had a wonderful
World Cup was all set to give Australia their biggest shock of the tournament. Klusener
faced the 48.5 ball of the match and smoked it flat over the head of Paul
Reiffel, a half chance for Paul, but with brutal force of the bat of Klusener
it managed to go over the head of Paul Reiffel for a flat six. The next ball
Lance took a single to keep the strike. The first and second balls of the last
over went for two breathtaking and blazing four’s. Klusner drove the next ball
straight hunting for a single merely surviving a run out. Klusener drove the
next ball straight down the ground and ran for a single Alan Donald frightened
by the prior run out escape was caught backing up too far resulting in the run
out.
South Africa’s fans went into deep silence and this decision of Lance Klusener
costed South Africa the World Cup Final.
It will be interesting to see how the match shapes and the outcome of the match
might bring a lot of shame or a lot of praise for Faf du Plessis. We do hope
the Faf du Plessis decision doesn’t replicates Lance Klusener’s decision.
