Why Should You Switch To IP Camera From Analog Camera?

by Eureka Forbes Owner

There are various factors pertaining to which you may think to switch from analogue camera to IP camera in your security system. IP camera stands for Internet Protocol camera system, which is a digital video camera that sends and receives data through a computer network. Usually, the factor that is highlighted the most is the reducing price gap between an analogue camera and IP camera. There are many reasons apart from the prices of IP cameras, and one must choose based on the security needs of the organisation and premises.

A lot of companies upfront promote benefits of IP cameras and encourage the customers to choose only the advanced technology. Hence, they do not offer analogue cameras. Although there are companies which offer analogue cameras as they are cheaper, and many people prefer going for it pertaining to the same reason. Adding to this some security integrators also offer HD cameras as the option between analogue and IP camera.

Here are some reasons why you must consider IP camera over an analogue camera-

1.       Multiple sensors – IP cameras offer a feature that supports three to four cameras in one camera that can cover a larger area. It basically carries one signal through a single cable to the system and so costs just one license.

2.       Reduces costs – IP cameras come with advanced technology due to which you need fewer IP cameras to do the job. Hence it saves a lot of money.

3.       Convenient installation – Unlike an analogue camera that uses two wires, IP camera uses a single wire for data as well as the power. Once you install an IP camera, you can operate it remotely until you have got it angled rightly

4.       Resolution – We all know with newer technology the resolution cameras get better. Similarly, IP cameras being the latest version in comparison to analogue cameras have superior image quality. You get to choose from various resolutions and ratios to customise the system as per your requirements.

5.       Intelligence and analytics – IP cameras are more like miniature computers, which compress and store recorded videos. Also, they can be programmed to offer various types of analytics. You can use it for various purposes such as to detect smoke in premises, count people in the area, detect motion, track certain colours, alert when something disappears and also set off alarms.

6.       Secured data – The videos recorded and stored in an IP camera are encrypted and authenticated. Hence the transmission is secured.

7.       Less equipment – Unlike analogue camera where you need an encoder and decoder, IP camera functions without it.

8.       Multiple uses – IP cameras offer an open platform as they are universal, which makes it easier to customise its features by adding new functions.

The above-mentioned points will help you decide to make a choice more efficiently. Regardless of what you choose IP camera or analogue camera, you must maintain and upgrade the system time-to-time for better results.
