by Eureka Forbes Owner
Gone are the days of a watchman who used to keep a vigil all night. The idea is no more practical and feasible in the present day. So, how is it that you are going to know if things are going smooth in your surroundings and there is no danger lurking somewhere? Surveillance cameras are the solution.

You set up the cameras, they will monitor every minute movement in the designated area. If you sense anything suspicious, then you have the copy of the incident that would help you to take precautions.

There are many varieties of CCTV cameras in the market like dome CCTV camera. It becomes a tough job for a consumer to choose between them. Some of the frequently and most popularly used cameras are listed out here and they are the ones that are used for homes, stores, restaurants, clubs, etc.

1. Dome Cameras: These cameras are called so because of the dome shape they exhibit. They are the most affordable of all and are apt for indoor installations. The shape of the cameras in this type is in such a way that it is hard to tell which side the camera is facing. A Dome CCTV camera is easy to install and is sturdy. It looks pleasing to the eyes with its shape and colour. It can also be converted into a panoramic surveillance camera.

2. Bullet Cameras: These cameras are long, thin and cylindrical in the shape of a rifle and hence the name. They are good for long distance viewing of a specific area. They have both day and night viewing features. Their flexibility feature is that they are ideal for indoor use but can be mounted for external purposes also. Like the dome camera, these too can be installed without any hassles and provide easy manageability.

3. C-mount Cameras: They are the advanced cameras. The cameras are equipped with a detachable lens which can be changed according to the need of the situation. The advantage of these cameras is that they capture high resolution images. Instances where dome or bullet cameras are not sufficient, c-mount cameras are fixed. The examples include banks, where surveillance needs to be kept for larger distances. Whereas normal CCTV cameras area of coverage is 35 to 40 feet, with a c-mount camera, you can conveniently cover more area. They are used for machine vision and vibration sensitive applications.

4. Day/Night Cameras: These cameras have the capability to perform well under any environmental condition. Whether it is a brightly lit area or a dim lit area, the day/night cameras capture a clear photo and video. They do not need infra-red illuminators, so they are very much suited for outdoor inspection where a normal infra-red camera won’t function properly. Apart from this, other advantages these types of cameras have are that they can record videos in black and white or colour and they come in a good number of sizes.

Think about the purpose for which you want to use a camera like a dome CCTV camera and buy one according to your specific need.
