Why Is It?

Here is a little gem I found many years ago and recently rediscovered in my little black book.
It brings a smile every time I read and conveys a message to be heeded, so enjoy
Why Is It? (also known as The Advertising Poem)
A man wakes up after sleeping
under an advertised blanket,
on an advertised mattress,
pulls off advertised pyjamas,
bathes in an advertised shower,
shaves with an advertised razor,
brushes his teeth with advertised toothpaste,
washes with advertised soap,
puts on advertised clothes,
drinks a cup of advertised coffee,
drives to work in an advertised car,
and then, refuses to advertise,
believing it doesn’t pay.
Later when business is poor,
he advertises it for sale.
Why is it?

For a business not to advertise is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but no one else does. - Stuart H. Britt, US advertising consultant

@ Arthur I can agree with most of what you say, however for a buiness and especially smaller local businesses to survive and flourish some form of advertising is a must be it a advert or article in the local rag or even a poster or postcard in the local post office or a club notice board in the niche of the busines. All I have used to great effect.

Just plain honesty
If the self satisfied advertising salespeople were honest with themselves - an absolute impossibility - they would acknowledge that the vast majority of products are not bought because of advertising. People buy what they can afford, when it is available or when they have decided to make a purchase. Numbnuts and the brain dead might sing the theme of an advert to tell a shop owner what they want but most people compromise by making a choice from what is available. Advertising is seen as intrusiv

Sean is very good at finding pictures to accompany the bits of wisdom he posts :)

This is all very clever - using the word in its derogatory sense. Advertising only gives a possible customer some form, of brand awareness. As an extreme example, we all call vacuum cleaners 'Hoovers' because early stockists only had 'Hoover' models to sell so anybody wanting an electric vacuum cleaner had to buy a Hoover. Today, even Dysons are referred to as Hoovers. It is not possible to claim that the advertising must have been successful because there was nothing else to buy! Used properly

A great out-of-the-box way of advertising the importance of advertising. Even big companies are spending lots of money on advertsing like Coca Cola, MacDonalds. And they are well known and well branded all over the world.
