Why Can Plywood Be a Better Choice for Your Kitchen?

by Purvi Chabra Marketing Consultant

I think we can all agree that food connects us.

You can be in a foreign country with strangers all around you and be hearing a language that’s musical but unknown - and yet when you sit down at a table and eat a local dish, you’ll feel more at home in the small cafe than in all the museums of the city. And it’s not just in travelling that this is true. The kitchen is the centre of every home. That’s where the kids rush to with muddy knees after playing in the evening and where you head to refuel and be comforted at the end of a long day at the office, maybe even before you change your clothes. All the best and most warm conversations start in the kitchen because it’s a place that rings of aeons and aeons of safety and peace.

That’s why it’s important to have the right kitchen. Because sure, we’ve all gathered in the space for warmth and fuel since we huddled in caves, but that doesn’t have to mean it should still look like a cave in the 21st century. Your kitchen needs to be the very best of the whole house because it basically reflects who you are as a person and what means home to you.

This can mean different things for everyone. Maybe you like cream walls and cabinets painted a deep green, or maybe you like the look of bare bricks and dark cupboards. Some people prefer a bright, sunny room with lots of natural light and gauzy curtains leading to the backyard. Others like moody lighting with tall tapers of candles to get that gothic feel. But that’s all aesthetics. And don’t get me wrong, I’m all for that. However, we have to also consider the functionality of what we put into our kitchens.

Is it durable under moist conditions? Is it easy to clean? How much maintenance does it require? After all, when you build a home, it’s not about the first initial months of walking in and seeing everything shiny and new - it’s about being able to keep up that quality even ten years later.

We recommend you use plywood for kitchen. Not only is there a vast amount of options for style and design there, but it’s very resilient and can thrive in the very humid and harsh climate of India. Plywood is an artificial material formed by layering thin wood or wood veneers into a single block or board. What makes plywood such a popular option in furnishing and styling is its versatility. Plywood can be coated with plastic laminate, a wood veneer or even thermofoil to give it a smooth finish. These options also make it impenetrable against termites and becoming damaged by moisture.

Another factor that makes plywood the best option for Indian kitchens is the way it’s bonded. Because the wood grains run against each other, it’s less likely than its alternatives to crack or shrink under heavy humidity like in our long monsoon seasons. It’s also extremely affordable when you consider all the benefits you get from the material, with the cost usually depending on the type and thickness you get.

Let’s be frank here. A lot goes into making Indian food, and our kitchen cupboards are constantly threatened to give way underneath the weight of all the masalas and ingredients we need. Well, you won’t have that worry when you use plywood to make your cabinets.

Maybe one of the best parts of moving far, far beyond the time of caves and campfires is that everything has shifted online now, and to get the best supplies for making your home beautiful, you don’t even have to step out anymore. You can easily find plywood online for wonderful and affordable rates.
