What You Should Know About Harvesting Wild Ginseng

by Simon Morris I am a freelance writer.

ok around, and you’ll see how almost every single person is rooting for herbs and other natural products to grow their immunity stronger. Especially during such times when a strong immune system is important for survival, people are looking for all the ways they can fix their health and protect themselves from deadly diseases and viruses.

One of the most searched and used herbs right now is Ginseng. Ginseng is famous for all the right reasons, and if you learn about it, you’ll know how it’s going to be the best herb you’ll ever use. This herb comes with magical medicinal benefits that no one can ever reap from a single medicine or from any other herb.

Yes, there are other herbs in the world that can save you from different diseases, but Ginseng is different because it can cure several medical issues for you and not just one. In other words, investing in wild Ginseng will be a decision that you’ll appreciate yourself for.

How To Hunt For Wild Ginseng?

The harvest of this herb is limited because the American wild Ginseng is now an endangered species. At a very considerable price, it’s exported to China because the demand for it is increasing with each passing day. In order to make sure that wild Ginseng doesn’t disappear and to make sure that it survives for as long as it’s possible, certain harvesting practices are suggested.

The best time to harvest this herb is during the months of September to November. Furthermore, you can’t just go to a forest and start harvesting it, in fact, you’d need a permit for that. An official permission from the state is where you begin from when you want to harvest wild Ginseng.

If you want to harvest this plant, here are the four main steps that you need to follow after getting the permission;

1- Identification of the plant

If you don’t even know what the ginseng plant looks like, it will be extremely difficult for you to harvest it. What makes it more difficult is the fact that this plant looks quite similar to other plants that we see. This is the reason why you should spend some time on the identification first. There are several illustrations on the internet that can help you learn what a ginseng plant looks like and how it can be distinguished from the other ones growing around.

2- Identification of the habitat

Finding the place with a good potential for the growth of wild Ginseng is the second step. You should know about Ginseng that it grows in forests that are 70 to 90 percent shaded. You should look on the North and the East facing slopes to be successful with your hunt. Harvesting this plant is only allowed in 19 states of the USA. Those states are; Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

3- Hunting during the right season

If you want high quality ginseng, you need to let it grow and wait for the season to come when you harvest it. There’s a very short bracket during which you can harvest this plant. Legally, you can harvest Ginseng from 1st September to 31st December in the USA.

Conclusion

With these simple steps, it will be easy for you to harvest wild Ginseng. It’s not that tough of a task only if you have the state’s permission and if you know what the plant looks like. We hope you now know everything about this plant, so just start on the identification of Ginseng until September arrives.
