What to Do If Your Face ID Is Not Working on Your iPhone

by Alessia Martine office.com/setup

Face ID is an outstanding security feature of iOS that allows its users to unlock their phones, authorize purchases, log in to different apps, etc.  using their facial details. But what if it stops working? Scary, right? Well, luckily, there are few things that you can do to fix this problem so that you can use your Face ID again on your mobile. Keeping this in mind, we are sharing with you six tips that you can use if you are unable to use your Face ID on your iPhone.

Ensure Nothing Is Blocking Your Face

Face ID uses your face details to unlock your iPhone, authenticate purchases, log in to different apps, etc. Therefore, it is very important that you ensure that your entire face is visible to your mobile’s camera, and nothing is blocking your face or your mobile’s camera lens; otherwise, you will not be unable to use your Face ID on your mobile.

For example, if your finger is covering your mobile’s camera lens, then your mobile may not be able to read your face details properly due to which you may not be able to unlock your phone using your Face ID. So, make sure that nothing is blocking your face if you are unable to use your Face ID on your mobile.

Hold Your Phone Correctly

Sometimes your iPhone Face ID may not work if you are not holding your iPhone Correctly. Why? Because if you are an iPhone user, then your phone must be in portrait/vertical orientation so that your camera can read your facial details properly.  Whereas if you are an iPad user, then you can use your Face ID to unlock your iPad regardless of the way you are holding it.

Besides this, make sure you are not holding your phone too close or too far from your face. Otherwise, this might also affect your phone’s ability to recognize your face details. So, make sure you are holding your phone correctly, and it’s not too close or too far from your face if you are unable to use your Face ID on your iPhone.

Clean Your Mobile’s Camera Lens

Sometimes you might not be able to use your Face ID if your mobile’s camera lens is not clean. For example, if lots of dirt or dust has gathered on your mobile’s camera lens, then it might affect your camera’s ability to read your facial details due to which you may not be able to unlock your phone using your Face ID. However, we can easily fix this issue by cleaning our camera lens with a dry cloth. So, make sure you keep your mobile’s camera lens clean if you want to make sure that you can use your Face ID on your iPhone.

Restart Your Phone

Yes, it may look like stupid advice but trust us, it works. Why? Because sometimes, your Face ID might not work due to some technical glitches, bugs, or background processes. But we can quickly fix all these problems by rebooting our mobile.  When we reboot our mobile, it forces our mobile’s OS to close and then restart our mobile’s apps, which may help you in addressing these issues on your mobile. So, try rebooting your device if you are unable to use your Face ID on your mobile.

Make Sure Face ID Is Turned On

Many times, we accidentally disable many settings on our device due to which we may face issues while using Face ID on our mobiles. For example, if the features that you want to access using your Face ID are disabled, then you will not be able to use these features using your Face ID.   To make sure this is not the case:

  1. Navigate to “Settings”>” Face ID & Passcode.”
  2. Now see if the features that you want to use are enabled or not.
  3. Finally, if these features are not enabled, then enable these features using the toggle button near them, and you will be able to access these features with your Face ID.

Reset Your Face ID

If all the above methods fail and you are still unable to use your Face ID on your mobile, then reset your Face ID and set it up on your mobile again. Yes, it is a drastic measure, but it may just help you fix your problem. To do this:

  1. Navigate to “Settings”>” Face ID & Passcode.”
  2. Now tap on the “Rest Face ID” option and follow all the on-screen instructions to complete this process.
  3. Next, navigate back to “Settings”>” Face ID & Passcode.”
  4. Now tap on the “Set Up Face ID” option.
  5. Next, hold your device in portrait/vertical orientation and click on the “Get started” option.
  6. Now position yourself (Face) inside the frame.
  7. Next, gently move your head to make a circle and tap on the “Continue” option when done.
  8. Now repeat this process for the second time and then tap on the “Done” option to complete the set-up process.

These were the six tips that you can use to fix your iPhone if you are unable to use your Face ID on it.
