What to do if you receive a defective product
Ever felt irritated, frustrated, angered or
with the quality of the product you received after you shopped online?
Every one of us face this at some stage or
other. After receiving a defective product or a misaligned product, we try
contacting the customer service and the issue goes on and on until it arrives a
logical conclusion.
But as customers, we may have either lost
our valuable and hard earned money because at times under such circumstances,
we :

Settle with the product we
received even though it was not what we wanted

Spend our valuable time chasing
the customer service but most of the times we don’t get a response we
anticipate

Yet, irrespective of whatever
we go through, we still have to pay the bank for using the credit card or net
banking. Either way money is debited
from our bank and we feel bad about it.

important to know what your rights are

If the product is defective or
not to your expectations, call up the customer service of the merchant and :

Note down the name of the
customer service agent/s you are interacting with

Explain your situation and hear
what solution is offered
·
If for some reason, you aren’t
happy with the solution, request for a supervisor
·
Insist the customer care to
provide you a ticket number or a reference number for your call
·
If you used a credit card, call
up your bank and inform them of the transaction and ask them to file a dispute
·
The bank then gives you a
temporary credit ( in most of the cases ), and files the dispute with the
merchant about the transaction. The entire process for you to get a refund and
make it permanent will take about 60 days but it is still worth the wait.
Please follow your bank’s instructions during the period of dispute.

In the meantime, if the
merchant agrees to refund you, check the number of days that the merchant will
take to process the refund.

If the refund is showing up on
your credit card statement, call the bank and inform them that the merchant
processed your credit and that you no longer wish to dispute the transaction.

During this entire period, it
is extremely necessary for you to record every evidence of your interaction
with the merchant.
These tips do not ensure sure shot success
over the dispute, but this is good to know information for the shopper.
