Upload speed matters when you need to attach large files to emails, making video calls and chatting with someone else online, upload and post images or videos on social network sites such as Facebook, Instagram, or a lot of other online activities. Similar to download speed, upload speed is also measured in Megabits per second – Mbps. The more Mbps of upload speed you see in speed test results, the higher the upload speed. And the higher the upload speed, the better. High upload speeds allow us to upload everything quicker and much more conveniently that helps us save a lot of time when engaging in online activities, especially the ones required to upload and send out the data.

Why download speed is often higher than upload speed

Normally, the download speed is often higher than the upload speed. You can check this by running speed tests to see if your download speed is higher than your upload speed or not. That means you will likely see the higher Mbps of download speed than the Mbps of upload speed in your speed results shown on the screen after performing the tests.

As mentioned before, the majority of online activities these days rely heavily on downloading, most internet connections are designed to give priority to download speed. This is also known as asymmetrical speeds. That’s the reason why we often see higher download speed than upload speed.

However, it does not necessarily mean that download speed is completely more important than upload speed. Upload speed also matters or even more important than download speed when it comes to uploading large-sized files on the internet.
