What is high grade baldness?
Doctors assess your grade of baldness by using Norwood classification. They grade your baldness from stage I to VII.

Class I: Entire hairline lies high on the forehead and is not actually balding.
Class II: Triangular areas of recession in the sides of frontal area and minimal recession on mid frontal area.
Class III: Borderline case. Deepening of triangular recession or can include thinning of hair on the vertex.
Class IV: Further frontal hair loss and widening of hair loss from vertex but still a wide band of hair present separating frontal and vertex hair loss.
Class V: Widening of frontal and vertex hair loss and continual breaking of separation line of hairs between frontal and vertex baldness.
Class VI: Band or bridge of hair disappear merging frontal and vertex baldness.
Class VII: A band of hair presents only in back and side of the head.

High grade baldness is stage VI and VII. With the latest techniques, the high-grade baldness can be treated in single session generally. There are certain circumstances where there is need of multiple visits to the high grade baldness.

Hair transplant treatment
Hair transplant is a minimally invasive treatment that involves the harvesting of the hair roots from the donor area and implanting these hair roots at the desired bald area. The procedure is performed by harvesting your hair which are permanent or DHT resistant in nature. The permanent hair roots are handpicked from selective donor area. The common donor area includes back and sides of the head, chest, axilla, beard etc.

The hair transplant procedure can be feasible only when the donor area had ample numbers of hair roots available to cover the bald area. The procedure offers pleasant hair growth but needs to be performed under the expert hands.

What are the hair transplant methods?
The hair transplant procedure can be performed by using 2 primary methods: FUT and FUE hair transplant.

FUT hair transplant: This technique is also referred as strip technique. In this technique, a section of skin is removed or excised from the donor skin. The strip is then dissected further into sections and each hair root is picked under the video assisted high magnification. The harvested hair roots are transplanted at the desired bald area. This technique could offer around 3000 – 3500 hair roots in one session.

FUE hair transplant: This technique is performed by individually extracting hair roots one by one from the donor area. The hair roots are picked from the donor skin with the help of a punch like device. The punch device is inserted into the skin of the donor area and hair roots are pulled along. The handpicked hair roots are then planted at the desired bald area. This technique could offer around 2000 – 2500 hair roots.

Which is the most appropriate method for high grade baldness?
FUT is a more appropriated method for high grade baldness. This method offers harvesting of higher count of hair roots and provide pleasant coverage on the bald area.

The combination technique of FUT and FUE are introduced for the treatment of the high-grade baldness. The combination technique provides the harvesting of more than 4000 hair roots from the donor area.

The doctor would evaluate the situation of your baldness during the consult and would suggest you the best treatment plan for the procedure.
