What is a Poker Sit-N-Go Tournament

by Siya Shetty Researcher

Sit-N-Go (SNG) is one of the most popular types of Poker tournaments. It is a single table tournament in which players can participate by paying nominal buy-ins. For beginners, playing an SNG tournament is the best way to gain an understanding of the basic concepts of the game such as Poker sequence, table positions, bet sizing, table etiquette, etc.

Turbo is the most popular format of SNG tournaments. In a turbo tournament, the blinds increase quickly (for example- every 5 minutes) than the regular tournaments where blinds raise steadily. The game usually lasted less than an hour. Due to the faster-than-usual blind structure and betting action, the player needs to think and make his moves quickly. A Turbo tournament can be played in two formats –

  1. Super Turbo
  2. Hyper Turbo

Variations of SNG Tournaments

Satellite SNGs – In a satellite tournament, the winner gets the entry ticket to a bigger and more expensive live or online poker tournament.

Double Or Nothing – In a double-or-nothing tournament, you either get double of your buy-in as a reward or get nothing. Unlike other variants, there is no need to be in the top finishing positions to win the prize. One-half of the total participants get eliminated from the table, the remaining players will become eligible to gets double of their buy-in

Knockout – You win rewards by busting out other players from the table. Every player has a bounty on his head that you can earn by knocking him out of the tournament.

An SNG game can be played between 6 to 10 players. As per the format, every player pays a fixed amount of buy-in to join the tables. There is not any specific starting time of the tournament. Whenever you want to play, you can log on to your online Poker account and register to play the tournament. The game begins when a predetermined number of players sit on the table. The rules to play an SNG tournament are similar to an MTT (Multi-player tournament).

The objective of the game is to collect all the chips in play by eliminating all the opponents. Similar to a freeze-out tournament, once a player runs out of chips, he needs to leave the table. He cannot buy more chips to continue playing. The player who survives at the table till the last becomes the winner. He gets the biggest portion of the total prize pool. The rest of the prize pool is distributed among the other top finishing players as per their position on the table.

If you are looking for the best way to increase your bankroll without committing yourself for a long time at the tables, SNG tournaments are the best for you. Before registering, it is important to go through with the rules, game variants, buy-in, and prizes. There are a number of gaming sites that host Sit-N-Go games around the clock. Along with massive cash prizes, you can also earn 100% Poker bonus offers, exclusive deals on deposits, loyalty club benefits, and much more by playing the wonderful game of cards online.
